@AussieLuvr  You said you used Urban Putty in two rooms and the hallway.  I want to make sure I don't have any gray in the paint or any yellow.  Does Urban Putty have either of those?  I have the paint chip taped to my wall and don't see any but wanted to ask you since you had used it.

I'm in the middle of remodel and today the painters did my ceilings.  I can't believe how bright my room is & paint isn't even on walls til next Monday!

I took everything down of course and i'm not "cluttering" up the walls again.

I chose Behr "Taste of Honey" (light yellow) for 1 accent wall in kitchen/den area.  Rest of walls are "White Veil" (creamy white).

what started as oh we will just do kitchen/den/hallway & utility room is now complete house.

And i am not putting valances & drapes back up -- keeping it "light & airy".

Tomorrow chop up tile floors😳 that will be the biggest mess.

Nothing better than freshly painted house!  And great way to rid clutter and freshen house.

@homedecor1  I'm thinking about not putting the valences back up in my bedroom.  I'm not sure about that yet.

@NickNack I was just at SW and picked out Kilim Beige for the walls and Dover White for the trim on our rental that we are going to market. Everyone gets 30% off through February.

We are in the process of painting the whole house and everything is getting painted the same colors they were.

With the exception of the living room and dining room, all the other rooms are different colors but they all do flow into each other.

@pattypeep  Kilim Beige is a color I've seen on Pinterest and liked. It's one of two paint chips that I'm going to go back to SW and pick up this week.  Are you really happy with it?

@NickNack

I think the Urban Putty is a warmer, creamier taupe, with no grey or yellow. I have an art degree and took three years of Color Theory so I'm pretty sensitive to colors and undertones and I find it be a perfect neutral.

I took photos a few minutes ago; the resolution is too high to post here and now my phone is dead. I can take some tomorrow for you and post here - unless you care to give me your email address in which case I can send several photos to you from different rooms and light levels. Smiley Happy

Re: Getting Ready To Paint

[ Edited ]

@AussieLuvr  I'm afraid to post my e-mail address on a message board.  I would love to see a picture, though, when you can post one.  It's beginning to sound like the perfect color.

@NickNack I haven't started the actual painting yet, but I'm very comfortable with my choice. The guy at SW said it is the most popular color chosen by home builders. Works for me. LOL The renters are out on the 28 and I will start painting on the first. I'm sure it will look good. @151949 has it on her walls and still likes it after several years.

@pattypeep  That's interesting that it's the most popular color chosen by home builders.

To everyone who is painting:

Just a little something to know (I'm an artist with a degree from Parson's School of Design and my sister is an Interior Decorator in New York) that I've learned.

Painting a darker color in a room doesn't have to make it look smaller. If you keep your furniture and accessories in the same tone saturation, the room will not really look smaller because the room isn't broken up by dark and light "fighting" with each other.

If you paint a room a darker color and then put white or very light accessories or furniture in it, they will POP and create the illusion that the room is smaller because your eye struggles to bring it all together cohesively.

Creating a dark but similar palette will allow your eye to relax while a palette with a lot of variation will make your eyes see a more fractured environment and it tricks the mind into thinking that everything is broken up instead of having a flow.

Its kind of hard to put into words, but a monochromatic color scheme in dark(er) colors won't make the room look smaller. Its the same concept as wearing an outfit that is all in the same color tone/hue and creating a column of color; it makes the eye see you vertically - thus giving the illusion of being slimmer.

If you go darker, make sure that your lighting adds to the room; it is absolutely critical to have great lighting. I'm a huge fan of dark rooms with "moody" lighting. I never even turn overhead lights on unless I can't find something, lol.

I have a huge den with a large fireplace and a beamed ceiling that is painted an extremely dark bronze color. I have dark, tapestry-colors for accessories and dark furniture and the room looks huge. The room has almost no natural light and rather than fight its natural darkness I just went with it and it is a cozy, warm and inviting space. I have a few Tiffany reproduction table lamps and an antique floor lamp. My husband thinks it is like sitting in an old English pub from the 1700's, but with comfy furniture. Smiley Very Happy

Most of the rest of my home is brighter but my favorite room is the darker den.
