No, why do you think retailers push warranties? Because it’s pure profit for them.

My neighbor had an extended warranty on her fridge. It took the repair company six weeks to finally admit they couldn’t fix it. They kept ordering parts that didn’t solve the problem. And a different tech came to her house each visit.

She never got reimbursed for all the food she had to throw out.

She had to buy a new fridge.

Yes, I do buy an extended warranty on most kitchen appliances. We just lost a fairly new microwave last month to frequent power interruptions. Our microwave is a large one that fits in the special wall unit we added in the recent kitchen update, and that size is not carried locally, and had to be special ordered. An additional 2 year warranty was too cheap to pass up.

I think that's a wise decision. I've never bought an extended warranty on anything. I've read too many times that they're a waste of money. My ice maker just went out on my 7 year old refrigerator. I almost didn't get it fixed because I thought it would cost too much. I don't remember the exact cost, but it wasn't that bad.

If it is covered by a warranty they would have to buy the new fridge.

I buy extended warranties for the things that cost me over $500 and have moving parts, compressors or motors in them. My electronics like my big TV, computer and home theater...no because usually electronics don't break...they just become outdated quickly.

When we bought all new appliances last summer, we did buy extended warranties for the dishwasher and the fridge. Microwaves are pretty much disoposable appliances now and not much can go wrong with a gas range so we passed on anything for these two appliances.

I bought the 3 yr warranties from Lowes on my washer and dryer. There's a 1 yr manufacturer warranty - then an additional 3 yrs from Lowes.

@on the bay My current dishwasher is around three years old. It needed repairs right when the first year warranty expired. So I guess in year two. The two pumps went out around the same time and were fixed on the same service call. The motherboard was replaced around December 2017 during another service call.

Our warranty was for three additional years. When it runs out and the dishwasher fails, we will just get a new one.

We have always had a problem with dishwashers not lasting a long time. I get a new one about every 5 years. I have had every make, brand and model. It doesn’t seem to matter how much they cost, or What features they have...they just aren’t made to last.

We never hook up the ice maker or water dispensers in the refrigerators. We had one repair covered under warranty on the current French door fridge. Something froze up and cause the fridge to be warm. The technician said a part to defrost the fridge was defective and he replaces them all of the time. He said the new part should last for years.

We have a second fridge that needed the same repair. No warranty. I asked the technician who was here to fix the dishwasher under warranty to take a look at it. He charged me $100 cash only under the table and supplied the part and the service.

My washer and dryer are at least 25 years old and have never been serviced, though my DH has replaced a belt at least twice, which was an easy DIY fix. I am praying I never have to replace them. I do not want HD appliances.

When we moved into our new home, we got extended warranties for all kitchen appliances from GE. Cost over 1K, but I cannot remember how many years it lasted. We had the service tech in once or twice so the warranty wasn't worth it to me. We bought a TV from Costco, got 2 year warranty from them and bought an extended 3 yr.warranty from Square Trade @$59. 1st TV died, Square Trade replaced it free of charge, that one died and another new TV was delivered yesterday, also free. Doesn't say much for the TVs, but you cannot beat Costco's warranty and Square Trade's policy. FYI, the original TV was a Vizio as was the second. This new one is an LG.
