I have an outside outlet and it stopped working. All my lights went off. I looked at the test and hit the reset but the red light stayed on. I went to the breaker box and I did not see any breakers off. I guess I'll have my electrician come back and see what the problem is. I think our last rain did something. Usually I can spot the breaker that's off....not this time. Has to be hot as the red light was on.

I've had that happen in the rain before, though it didn't knock out all the power, just the things attached to that outlet, (usually it effects the garage). The moisture somehow gets into the outlet and it's "smart" enough to know to shut itself off. You must have had a lot of rain. Why yours didn't reset, (mine does) I guess that's an answer for your electrician to answer.

@KitTkat I have searched to show u the most idiotic weather proof cover he installed last year.... I've never seen such a thing....and still can't find one on line, lol... I was mad last year seeing what he put over it and was going to get huffy, but I never do... I did email him and tell him I hate that thing so we're going to do it the right way now![]()
It's like an accordion thingy that pulls down and is extremely hard to manipulate to even plug anything in it. underneath...part rubber I think or ???....I think it's the only one ever made... Horrid thing. Poofs way out and down over the outlet... Plumber just here, now the electrician....oh, and computer dude...so I can fix a table with treats
Oh, forgot my garden guy who I had to pay Sun. to fix the fence b tween properties...again.
-Mr. Roger's neighborhood it's not-
Nice 2 c u tho @KitTkat

Breakers sometimes get "fried" and need to be replaced. I've had this happen in two different houses.

@Desertdi If fried, would it have shown as 'tripped' then?

1. The breaker doesn't always trip, but still needs to be re-set. When I've had that problem, I have gone through my breaker box and re-set (turned it all the way off for a few seconds and then back on. If you know which one it is, it's pretty easy). Mine are listed as "plugs and lights" so I have to reset all 4 of those. My electrician told me this once when I had this problem.
2. Are you sure your test/reset button you pressed goes to that particular plug? My front outside plug goes to my master bathroom and my back outside plug goes to my kitchen. I had to find this out the hard way by going through the entire house and resetting every single one of these until I got the plug to work again.

I’ve also had my outdoor GFCI outlets trip and some of the indoor outlets wouldn’t work. I had no idea at first why a few of the indoor outlets would not work until my son in law figured it out. Sometimes they seem hard to reset - I have to push the reset button and then push the trip button and push the reset button again before I get it to reset.

Outside lights should have one of those breakers on the outlet that pops off if it senses moisture. You simply go to the outlet itself and push the red button to reset it.

@151949 I did go to the outlet directly outside and tried to push the TEST/RESET.. but nothing happened...
Possibly, I was / am not strong enough to reset it......it's a very small 'reset'....compared to others I had..... but I decided to check my main breaker box anyway.... used flash light in the garage - all were marked strangely by each workman who did 'certain' jobs over time......good grief.....I don't read their short hand... terrible labeling.....imo......I thought about shutting the entire place off, then "ON", but did not want to risk it late at night.
All my other outside lights came on. They are all on sensors. It's only that specific outlet outside. I doubt it has a breaker to itself but it's just a guess.
