Does anyone have a favorite brand of a small electric fireplace?  I want one for a small apartment.

Just bought the Dura Flame that was the TSV recently, and I just love it. It looks great in my chilly porch/family room and gives out an astonishing amount of heat, even at the low setting.

I had a Dura Flame fireplace cube from QVC last year, but I gave that to my daughter for a cold corner by her patio doors. That one also kept my room cozy all last winter, which is brutal here in Minnesota.

My new fireplace heater has a neat log arrangement and lattice all around. The colors were gorgeous (almost bought the aqua), but settled for the cream one. Recommend it highly for a small space.

We have a Chimneyfree Monroe model which we love. It holds our 40" tv and has a shelf we use for the cable box and dvd player.  the fireplace insert is only 18" so it has a small footprint in the room. Mine is in a dark cherry finish. I see Menards is offering these this year in other wood tones.

Thanks.  I have been looking for one for the den and this sounds perfect.  I have 2 real fireplaces one in the bedroom which is fine and one in the formal living room which I never use.   That is why I am envious of people that are able to build their homes in the method that suits them best.

I had a Dimplex for years that I loved. Super warm, had a fire look that you could use with or without heat. It was in a real wood mantle, aprox 46" h x 14" d x 46" w.  You can get them much smaller, and also a wall mounted version.

There is one id love to experience in real life, it gives off a mist, like humidifier mist, and orange and yellow lights shine up through it as the mist moves around giving it a more natural flame effect.  The big drawback with it is it's really expensive. Dimplex Opti-mist

For now I have a small Stanley portable heater that has a thermostat, a high, low or no--just a fan no heat. It can heat up the room quick.

I bought one from Lowes about 5 years ago, in white, 40" tall,43" wide and 4" deep.  It plugs into the wall and I keep it pulled out from the wall 3".  I bought it to sit a 42" flat screened tv on.  I watched it from Nov to Jan , not wanting to pay full price.  When they put them on sale, the white was gone at my local store.  The salesman called another store about 40 miles away, I bought it over the phone and they delivered it right to my condo and set it up.  It has a pretty fake log electric little heater, but it would not keep a whole room warm. Paid $150 for it, also came in walnut and cherry.  It is more like a piece of furniture than heater.  Has a very traditional mantel and traditional look.

The little square Duraflame cube is cute as can be and perfect apartment size.  I'm tempted but have no place to put it.  I have a real gas log fireplace but prefer my Duraflame stove.

I hope it doesn't drive up your electric bill too much.  Some heaters are pretty bad.

I agree that the Duraflame is an excellent product (have one in the basement).  We also bought a no name brand from a big box store that was a very small combo TV/electronic stand that has an electric heater that looks like a fireplace on the bottom (even has very small built in shelves with doors on the side and what looks like a gray marble surround.  I LOVE this piece as the fire looks real, the heat is decent and it's small enough to fit in our living room.

We took a chance buying it but it's turned out perfect for us as we already had a TV stand in the room already and this just incorporated a fireplace/heater without having to find more room to put it!   And it was approx. $230....
