Hi Everyone,
I'm headed out this afternoon to place an order for a new desk...I've been taking my time over the past couple of weeks, shopping around, browsing online, etc., and finally made a decision...so many styles and choices, as well as various prices.
So, I thought it would be interesting to post on here and find out what size/style/color desks you all might have...Ours will be going in our Den area which is a small room, so I wanted to be sure to stay pretty close to the same size as our current one...The new one I will be ordering is black....59L x 30H x 24W...drop down drawer for keyboard/mouse...two extra drawers and a storage area for computer modem...It will fit our space perfectly and be functional enough for our personal use.
I was also wondering if you use desk mats or tempered glass to protect your desktops?...I haven't been using anything on our current desk but do plan on checking into one of the options mentioned above for our new desk...I will stop off at Staples and see what they have available.
I've been going through my usual Fall "spurt" around the house, which I'm sure many on here can relate to!...I'm having a ball!...LOL
Okay, time to head out...beautiful Fall day here today!...I will check back in this evening.
Wishing Everyone A Great Day!

I have this "tool free" one from Pier1. It required three people to stabilize it into place, LOL. I don't think it's available anymore (must have been too popular, LOL).

I have a home office. http://www.nicelyhouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/design-home-office-antique-decor-design-home-o...
I have formica countertops. I use a protective mat to keep a printer from scratching it . The mat looks like a large flat mouse pad. I use desktop computers, and I have sliding keyboard trays.

If we stick with a desktop computer I want an Armoire to hide it all. LOL!!!
Forgot to say I would use a mat or glass top over your new desk so it does not get scratched up. If you put glass over it you can leave notes under it.

Hi, @MyShadowLove (love your nic). I use an oak sofa table as a desk, because I love the clean, sleek lines, and slender profile. It's in our spare bedroom. I also use a very well-made birch "tv table" - one of the foldable kinds, for my everyday laptop activity. I've converted our dining room into a sitting room/office so this little table could also be used to serve food.
I have a filing cabinet in the garage for stuff I need to stash.
Definitely, having the right furnishings/surfaces enhance the everyday experience. My "desks" are not protected by anything, and in fact, the sofa table also has plants on it and sports many water stains.
DH uses a hand-me-down piece of you know what desk that we got from a friend (who is now deceased), but hey, it still functions. And he has one of the tv trays by his chair. I know they sound really cheesy but they're 30 years old and they're really quite nice pieces of furniture, and convertible.

@lolakimono...LOL..Your "tool free desk" is quite unique and I'm sure serves your own personal needs, as long as it stays stabilized!...LOL
Thanks so much for sharing!...I love your sense of humor!...You will note that my quoting you "unstabilized" your original post!...LOL

@Nightowlz...LOL...I hear you about the Armoire!...After ordering the desk today, I stopped off at Staples and picked up a clear mat that will work out fine to protect the desk.

@Sweetbay magnolia...Thanks, your nic is lovely also...Do you happen to have a Sweetbbay Magnolia Tree in your yard?
I love your idea of using a sofa table as a desk for the very reasons you mentioned and, also, the way you utilized other furniture that you already have on hand....sounds very functional and quite nice!...So many creative ideas on these forums!
Thanks so much for taking the time to share!

We acquired an old (1940s-50s, I imagine) grey steel Made in USA Globe Wernicke desk for our home office. I cannot imagine ever using any other desk as this thing is as solid as a battle ship and serves every need. DH had a glass top cut for it, and I put family photos underneath the glass. Even though I previously had a desk twice as large, I couldn't be happier--or as happy--with any desk other than this one.
