Does anyone have suggestions on how to keep a wreath hanging on the front door from banging on the door when its windy outside. And sometimes blowing off of the door?

  Other than using  tape?

I used tape but it left a nasty tape mark on the door when I took it down!

This happens when I hang something seasonal that is wooden too! Right now I have nothing on the door since this keeps happening.

Can you use a suction cup on the door, to hold down the bottom of the wreath?  Also if you could take fishing line and tie the bottom half of the wreath around the door so it goes the hinge side and the open side and ties in side the house.  See what happens, you won't have a mark on the door.

What about using something like Museum Wax to hold the wreath in place.  It shouldn't damage your door either.

You can put it on a few spots to keep the wreath secure.

Have you used a wreath hanger? I have quite a few and they work well.

I have a door knocker on my door so when I want to hang something on the front door I can tie a ribbon on the wreath and wrap it once or twice around the door knocker....the wreath may move a bit left to right but does not bang against the door.  Not sure what I would do with out the door knocker....like others suggested maybe the museum wax.

My friend had one of those long metal wreath hooks....she came home one day and both blew off the door!

I saw this on the Home Depot website too. I've never tried it.

For years on my glass full view exterior door I've used one suction hook - QVC sold them in gold or silver (but they don't show with wreath)  Yes, the bottom of wreath does bounce a little with door action - but I'm careful not to let door bang shut.  Humidity does affect the suction - so wreath will fall down - but it's not often.

@colliemom4 @FlowerBear  These work great on my wooden front door. In really high winds I may hear a lite banging, but it doesn’t bother me. If you used two of these (one on top and one on the bottom) it probably wouldn’t move at all.

I use the Command inside and out in the clear (if they still have them - mine were bought years ago).

For larger wreaths (like the the VPH I’m using now) on front entry double doors I stick another Command hook lower down and loosely attach wreath with whatever is convenient like florist wire, raffia, fishing line, etc.). You’ll quickly get the feel for the tightness you need and these remove easily and leave no residue.

I take my decoration in when it's windy or it's going to storm.  I turn the wreath hanger to the inside and hang the decoration that way.

Some seasons my decorations spend more time on the inside of my front door than the outside ;o)
