@Lucky Charm wrote:I like that black jug! It's so hard to see the p..... willows, can you set it on the floor next to the hearth? They'd show so much better. And hide an outlet or cable plug, too.
Maybe a low basket on the other side for storing pet toys, but they'd still have access.
That stone is so pretty on your fireplace.
Can the cat reach the mantle because of the chair flanking the fireplace? Mine won't jump higher than a chair seat (and I'm thankful for that!).
My favorite is that vase you have on backorder.
Thanks you for your input @Lucky Charm The p willows aren't hard to see in person. I noticed they were hard to see in the picture. Also, I don't normally have all those toys on the hearth. I have a basket for them in another room, and she brings them in the living room. I should have moved them before taking the picture.
I have a chest beside the fireplace, and my cat jumps on the chest from the couch and then to the mantel. The chest needs to be there. When he first jumped on the mantel I had some antique Staffordshire dogs on the mantel that I treasure. I heard him from another room and ran in to see what had happened, and he was on the mantel. I about had a heart attack. As soon as he jumped down I moved the antique dogs.
He doesn't get on the mantel very often, but it would be too risky to have a painting sitting there.

The snippets I’ve seen of your home around the photos of Ava and Henry, were lovely. I think your new design will be great too.
One bit of info. When DH and I were in Grad. School, we lived in a tiny 4 room Mill house in a row of tiny Mill houses, the lot of us were young married students. The point - little money.
To my absolute mortification our next door neighbor told us that, at night, with the lights on, you could see through our seagrass blinds. 😮I was SO ☺️ Embarrassed!
Anyway, having No decorating budget, they were NOT lined, a point to think about. Also our then, 7 cats COULD NOT KEEP THEIR PAWS OFF THEM!
Love to decorate! Have fun!

Thank you @Drythe . That's interesting. I would be mortified, too. The seagrass blinds I was considering were lined. I've decided to get the linen and cotton Roman shades though, and they are lined. I think I would prefer that look in a bedroom. VaBelle pointed out that whatever I used to dust the seagrass blinds would get caught in the seagrass. Now you point out about the cat, and that's an excellent point.
I do think I would prefer the fabric look. They're quite a bit more expensive, though, and that's one reason I was considering the seagrass. I always preferred the look of the fabric though, for a bedroom.

I just wanted to come back and say that I've decided to go to Michael's this week and try to find more colorful branches for the black vase.

Could the p willows go in the vase you're still waiting on?
I don't see anything wrong with leaving the black vase empty. Can it sit on the hearth or would it get knocked over? It would look pretty next to the black fireplace doors.

@Lucky Charm My dog sits on the hearth all the time. I think a vase could get knocked over. I was going to get more colorful branches since the p willows blend in with the fireplace. I didn't even realize it until I saw the picture. I love a neutral palette but think the branches could stand out more with color.
