Definitely wash all bedding and clothing. They've been handled many times - and there are lots of chemicals in it. I also wipe down all my groceries.

Most of ya'll spend a lot more time washing (everything) than I do.  No to new sheets, and no to new clothes.  And i have never opened a set of new sheets and been repelled by the smell.  In fact i love the way a new set smells and feels.

I guess that, based on the responses here, your and I are not the norm.  It would never even occur to me to wash something that was purchased new.  I certainly believe in personal hygiene, usually take two baths a day, etc., but I have to say that I think Americans are somewhat obsessed with cleanliness, not that there's anything wrong with that (lol).  I've been to places in the world where standards for cleanliness are nothing like they are here, and yet people seem to survive just fine.  I guess maybe it's what you get used to.
