I'm using a dresser as a sofa table and a small folding bookshelf as a night table. I also have an antique suitcase stand and suitcase that I use as an endtable.

I just walked around my house and tried to figure out how I can put together my own vanity table. I figured out that I may not have adequate supplies for that project.

This is one of the first things I saw on Pinterest when I joined:

suitcase chair

I know, it's way out there! How do folks think up things like this?

That's pretty impressive!!

That is impressive! I have an old steamer trunk of my parents that I keep my doll collection in. It would make an awesome loveseat if done like that, but I wouldn't know the first way to go about it, and it would cost me a fortune to have it done. Cool idea for those that are creative and skilled. My dad used to do woodworking, he could have helped me before he got sick, but I would still be lost on the upholstery part.

Honestly, if I wanted to go about such a project, I would first experiment on materials that didn't have sentimental value. Practice makes perfect...and I wouldn't want to "practice" on items that are priceless to me. I think my parents' combined knowledge might get me the desired result...but...I'd rather practice on an abandoned piece of luggage, you know? {#emotions_dlg.unsure}

I know right... LOL! I have plenty of luggage sets I could practice on if I had the time and patience, but we both know how that goes. I have much respect for the crafty and clever types... the rest of us humans just have to pay retail! {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I also have one of my grandmother's china cabinets that could use some rehab... that blue/grey paint would look awesome on it. Again, a project for someone that knows what they are doing. I have basic art skills, can do a decent abstract painting, but I don't want to mess it up.

P.S. Mistri... we haven't chatted lately. Hope you are doing okay. Smile

Ah, things are as okay here as they can be. My dad's cardiologist told him his heartbeat is irregular, but not to worry...but he has to go back in 3 months for another echocardiogram. {#emotions_dlg.unsure} I think the worry is actually that his cancer could grow around an artery or otherwise interfere with his circulation, since it is primarily in his chest. My mom has cataract surgery next week and will also be tested for sleep apnea. My brother has decided to visit after Valentine's Day, for a long weekend. I think he thinks that he will be cleaning out their basement, but I'm pretty sure that will not happen. My mom will not be able to oversee everything, having just had surgery, and if she can't oversee everything, it won't be allowed to take place. My dad is starting to have more nausea from the chemo, and I doubt he will be feeling very good while my brother is here. I can't afford to take time off of work for his visit, so I'm not sure what he'll be doing while he is here...watching my dad doze off on the couch, perhaps? ::shrug::

My dad saw his urologist the other day and his PSA is still very high. I don't know why. He had months of antibiotics, and his PSA is still up. I can only imagine if there were cancer there, it would've shown up on his last PET scan. I talked to my mom on the phone today; she sounded depressed and overwhelmed by the multitude of appointments and medical procedures they are both having to schedule and undergo. I think she's really feeling old, because it's almost a full-time job trying to schedule everything, pay all of the medical bills, etc. I requested off for the day of her surgery, but I didn't know she had to go back to see the same doc the next day. I hope my dad is feeling well enough to drive her (he takes Ativan when his nausea gets bad, so he should not be driving). He also has an appointment to go to after hers. I would ask for the extra day off, but my employer keeps calling and telling me not to come in when the snow is bad, so I am having a hard time making ends meet...plus, I don't want them to get the impression that I'm unwilling to work as many days as I possibly can. I need money, and I want them to schedule me so I can make some...but I am afraid of my parents driving around town in the snow. {#emotions_dlg.unsure}

Anyway, I hope things are alright on your end...as alright as they can be, anyway. I hope your dad's MRIs didn't reveal anything new, and that you are getting more rest and having an easier time getting along with him.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to get away for a day, and have somebody take care of us? A nice spa day or something.

This is interesting--and practical--for crafters.

It looks like a display like you could buy at OfficeMax (you know, you slip a flyer in, and it becomes a desktop sign).

It looks like someone applied velcro strips to it, and put velcro squares on their bottles of fabric paint.

Pretty clever. I'll bet you could store other things that way as well...

I have really enjoyed these pictures-so creative!! I have seen guitars made from cigar boxes, Flutes made from PVC pipes, a Slide guitar made from an old wooden ironing board. Fire pits made from old metal truck wheels,

Who remembers making radios from oatmeal canisters?

{#emotions_dlg.w00t}...and I'd would display it proudly! Our cats would love this!

Has anyone made or had someone make a t-shirt quilt? They're popular with high school and college kids- boys and girls. I had saved (sentimental reasons) a lot of our kids t-shirts while they grew up, and put a quilt together for our oldest son. He really loved it, brought back memories for him. I'm trying to find/collect a bunch of shirts to make one for our youngest. I found a shirt from LEGOLAND that he had from years ago and mentioned to him that I needed to find a few more shirts to start his quilt. I thought my 21 year old was going to cry- he assumed I wasn't going to make one for him. Didn't know it meant that much to him!

Mistri, do your parents have a shuttle service in their area? Ours here is called SARTA , we also have Koala Cruisers who will pick up and drop off kids and/or seniors for appointments for a nominal fee. There is also a company that uses a van that is equipped for the disabled that transports but they are more expensive to use. Maybe you can check to see if there is something like these. Much better than a city bus or cab, and safer. My elderly neighbor used SARTA for times I wasn't available to take him to appointments.

Best wishes to your family- Hopefully your brother will be able to get a few things done around the house that needs taken care of! There's always something that needs fixed or unclogged{#emotions_dlg.laugh}. That will keep him busy!
