Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

It's been a while since I've even read posts, much less made a post myself. I've been super busy finishing up the guest room re-do. Who could have guessed this perhaps week to 10-day project would turn into months, lol. Well, I have one piece of artwork to hang on the wall (decided to go with minimal decor) and need to find a couple small sized bedside tables, and it will be done. I've compiled quite a pile of items to donate. Various decor items plus things "found" during the cleanout of the room. One granddaughter wants a couple things. One of my daughters has always loved the comforter that was on the bed, and since I wanted new to go back in the room, asked her if she wanted it, and she does, so I washed, fluff dried and hung out in the sunshine, it is now in a spacebag waiting till she makes a trip back (she lives several states away). Still waiting for the donations center to re-open, also the recycling center (they started taking cardboard only, last week, so I had a full load to take, just of cardboard. This stuff multiplies like bunnies, lol. Seems like we are all in a bit of a holding pattern, but keeping our heads above water. Stay safe and healthy.

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

With my husband in the hospital, I've been very stressed.  When I am stressed or overwhelmed, that's when I purge the most.  Get the stuff out of my sight.

This morning I dropped off two full large shopping bags at Goodwill. Several Tupperware storage containers (the past 3 months at home has given me a clear vision of what we actually use), miscellaneous items.  I really can't remember everything. I also dropped off a brand new large throw pillow.  I'm just not going to use it.

Before I left the house this morning, I opened another shopping bag so I can fill it also.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Today I finished sorting out a box of paper clutter. Very little was kept, most was shredded or tossed.

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

Like so many others, I'm still in a holding pattern, with our favorite donating places still not fully operational.

Keep adding to my box of donatables from just before lock-down.  It sits in my front vestibule, getting heavier and heavier!

Latest thing to donate--  our mugs that now have handles that get too hot in microwave.  Apparently, over time, enough moisture can penetrate through teeny 'micro-holes' in the handles, so when you microwave, they get heated up.  It is apparently worse in cups with darker glazes.  Least likely to happen in mugs that are light or white in color...

Anyway, the mugs are still completely serviceable if you don't microwave.  But we do, a fair amount, so I'm ditching them and ordering more of my old reliables, "Winter Frost White" mugs by Corelle...

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

I have spent the last few years downsizing while staying in my own home. I think its time to sell our family home and move to a townhouse/condo type situation but DH just isn’t ready and I don’t want him to feel pressured. When we do it, we both need to feel good about it.

So I have been systematically going through the linen closet, kitchen cupboards, clothes closets etc and have drastically reduced what is there so when the time comes to move it will be much easier. Of course there is the matter of DH’s garage but I have no control over that so I look the other way!

This past week I gathered up pictures and art work we had framed and matted  and displayed through the years but no longer want. Many of the frames were quite expensive so we donated them to a local art group who were thrilled to get them. I feel so good that they are not going to end up in the landfill some day if we move suddenly because of an illness or death. I have had to close up households five times for elderly relatives and I never want to burden my son with decisions that could have been handled earlier.

@rnmom

As middle school teacher I would walk down halls after students cleaned out their lockers and dumpster dive trash bins.  I could not believe the new and nearly new stuff I retrieved. The following year I had paoer, binders, etc to give students unprepared for class.  No way could I see that going to landfill.

3 or 4 skincare items that were too old.
