I think the use of space under the staircase is a good way to go in a small area. However, there is just too much going on here.

other choices:  use the wall going up the stairs                          

                          use 2 spin around 4-sided cabinets that

                                   are about 6 feet high ( IKEA ??? )

The idea is clever but the execution is cluttered. She needs to redo it and be neater & more organized IMO.

The bookshelves under the steps is a clever idea....the books piled on the steps looked really cluttered. Plus the caricatures hanging from the bookshelves don't work at all for me. The whole thing would drive me nuts....either it's for books or it's an art display, but it doesn't work for both!

If space is really limited you do what you have to. 

I would say this is clever, but needs to be differently arranged/displayed to stop it from looking so cluttered. It can be done, just needs some organization and thought about they way it is filled.

Using the space under the stairs is a practical idea in a small space, but this one needs better organization.  The hanging basket chair needs to go as does the extension out into the room.  With more thought, this could have been a good storage solution.

Both. The space also disorients and confuses me.lol
