In a small apartment, the homeowner repurposed the area under the stairs into a library.
Do you think it's clever or cluttered?

Cluttered. My eye doesn’t know where to look.

Under the stairs, yes but not using the extended landing as extra shelving.

Awful

I'd just like to know how the owner got the shelving to exactly match the stair treads. I bet those custom shelves cost a fortune. It's definitely cluttered which would make a small apartment feel even smaller.

Both! It's a clever idea, but her arrangement of the books and nick nacks and the decor against the walls under the stairs is clutterly looking.
I would prefer a more formal set-up. The whole wall behind the books would look better painted blue. There is too much gong on. I also would remove the books at the bottom on the carpet and the floating willow basket chair.

We have about 2,000 plus books.Have a library. If you love books as we do I do not think this is clutterd.

Cluttered. I am having a panic attack just looking at the picture.
