@stevieb .............For me there are times when a post just screams jealousy, I dont know why but I guess its a strong gut feeling.  I dont know if is right or wrong just strong mojo I guess.

@Imaoldhippie. Yes it's my prerogative or not, and historian or not (I could care less of someone's title), this is NOT a castle. It's a home styled to appear as a castle with certain features. Its like building a life size sand castle on the beach & calling it a "waterfront castle". I don't get hung up on technicalities, I'd rather use common sense.

And if anyone thinks they didn't jump on the opportunity to use the word castle au nauseum to generate more profit & interest for themselves, I have an igloo in Alaska to sell. I'm obviously not a fan of either of them or their brand.

@sometimesQVCaddict   I've read several articles about the history of the castle/home. What I have learned is it was fashioned after a castle along the Rhine river in Germany.  It has Carrara marble from Italy, stone from France, and Honduran Mahogany. Anyway, if it's not a castle it looks like one. To me it makes no difference as I am always happy to see something this old restored and used.  It is part of Waco history whatever it is!

@jubilant Thank you! So yes it was made to "look like a castle" but in reality is not. I'm certainly happy anytime I see a treasured home restored, but this couple just irks me, so I'm just biased in their overinflated egos being given another boost with their "castle" which in reality is just a home.

There are actually plenty of homes in my general area (Northeast) that look like this, especially in the well to do suburbs of Philly, and while some might be called "stately mansions" or "estates", certainly I can't imagine being so pretentious to call their home a castle as this couple has done. Is anyone that has a home with a stone turret, stone exterior on a grand scale or elaborate woodwork inside gonna call their home a castle now if they copied castle type designs in building however long ago? There's a few within a few miles or closer from my own home! Guess I live in castle-land. Geez. Yeah...not!

I'm certainly not jealous by any means of this couple, I really really strongly dislike their folksy persona they portray to rake in millions. Well maybe I'd want their money-who wouldn't? lol But as individuals, yeah, not jealous one tiny bit!

Re: Chip and Joanna Gaines

[ Edited ]

This home forum has mostly been a fun place to come for decent conversation. I must say, I'm sorry to see people saying some very negative things about designers and decorators.

Describing people in negative hurtful ways.......

people that we don't even know personally, is just so wrong.  It makes coming here to the Home topic less enjoyable....at least for me it does.

If you have ever had someone do this to you, perhaps you would understand just how utterly hurtful some of these comments can be. This has happened to me in real life and I can't begin to tell you how much it hurts to be judged and lied about  when the facts are simply not true.

Thankfully, I've learned through it all, just to be concerned about what God thinks of me and not people. I have read about the damage and hurt these kind of comments have caused in others (Joanna for one) lives and I hurt for them.  Hopefully, this won't become a forum to discuss what we don't like about people and we can stick to the fun stuff.

Never understood what she saw in this man.  He is too mature to be acting so goofy and juvenile. Joanna can do better.

@jubilant ...............I posted this because I thought "homey" people would like to see what was done, what was saved or replaced.  Something out of the flip norm so to speak.

But as usual it turned into a bashing thread with a argument thrown in.  I should have expected it, but it was such a benign post I did not think it would draw so much negativity.  Sigh

@Imaoldhippie I understand. This is one of the forums I do enjoy because we talk about things more than people. I know the statements I made won't be very popular to some but I'm hoping we can keep at least this home forum friendly, helpful, interesting, and upbeat.   It's much more satisfying that way and it gives us a break from the worlds negativity....if at least for a little while.
