I would never have wood flooring.

All I will say is that I really miss my carpeting in my Ohio home. Here in FL, we only have carpet in the bedrooms.
We have tile everywhere else, and hardwood in our den. We are very careful in our den, yet there are still dents and dings in the floor.
Carpet is soft, comfortable, and realatively inexpensive. And it is much easier to take care of than the other flooring options. Just my opinion.

I have hardwood in the dining room, carpet or tile everywhere else.
I would never put wood in my family room...I like to sit on the floor and I know it would not be warm in the winter, plus our home is on a slab, which would make the floor even colder....everyone has their own opinion...wood would not work for me.

Love hardwood floors....throughout every room in our home except bathrooms. Love the cleanliness and most of all, the beauty. But it is a personal choice, so go with your heart!

Will someone be clog dancing in those rooms? I don't see how wood floors would increase the noise level in a home. I have carpeting because it with this condo but I prefer wood floors. I miss the beauty and warmth of wood floors.

@Twins Mom With wood you can purchase area rugs like 9x12 or smaller to warm up the look. Wood will last forever, carpeting will need to be replaced. I would not like carpeting in a dining room or an area rug.

My total first floor is hardwood, including the bath and kitchen. My floors are a light/med oak color. They are easy to clean and are not noisy.
I do use an area rug in my living room. The floors are cold in the winter time. I am happy with no Wall to Wall carpeting. In addition, the floors will last almost forever.
Personally, I would not have dark hardwood flooring. They are breathtaking beautiful, but every speck of hair, dust and dirt shows. They require more maintance and they often show streaks when washed.

I would go for the hardwoods (or even laminate). I have carpeting and I hate it.

I recently bought a condo with hardwood flooring throughout. My previous home had hardwood throughout except for carpeting in the bedrooms. Honestly, after living both ways I would say that I prefer to have wall-to-wall carpeting in the bedrooms. I find that with all hardwood floors, it's just noisier in general, and I live alone! Just old house noises, and furnace noises come through the vents from the basement. Maybe I'm just too noise sensitive.

We've lived in our house 44 years. I have carpet throughout and hardwood in bathrooms, kitchen, and laundry room.
We've replace the hardwoods 3 times from water damage, children, and grandchildren.
We've replaced carpet once. I have a Bissell carpet cleaner I can whip out and clean carpets in an hour and they look bran new.
My vote is carpet.
I was looking at the new look for 2020 and it's hardwood with large rugs if that helps.
