Yeah, true, @GingerPeach..   I sure don't live that formally.  Even if I wanted to, it doesn't really make sense with a teen still at home, and four cats.

This particular place is a bit too frou frou for my daily living and taste-- I need a certain "roughness" or quirky rusticity thrown into the mix.   But I do like gazing at the pretty pictures, my taste or not!

With a lot of these high-styled, professionally decorated interiors, there's always a cozy den or series of dens, that provide a retreat within even the most formal, rarefied house.   In this one, for me it's that dreamy blue den or library-- I could spend most of my time there....

The homes are beautiful, but I don't know a soul, myself included who has a house that would warrant being decorated like that. I'm wondering if you all actually own homes like this , is it a fantasy thing, or do you just like to critique the decorating?

I can't speak for any of the other posters who put up pictures, @blackhole99 ,  but I do it for fun and visual enjoyment.

@blackhole99  Speaking for myself, I have always enjoyed home decorating and design. My home is a good bit more modest than most of what we see posted and my elements of design cost a good bit less. Still, I'm a firm believer that while one can spend a bundle on appealing rooms, you can also obtain delightful results without access to Fort Knox.

Just to be clear, @Oznell , I did not mean my  comment as a critique.  Just maybe a bit of reality.  I love seeing decor and design and hope you continue to bring us more.

And in spite of my having said that about formal living, I still live in the hope that more of us will discuss design more broadly than simply offering our own personal likes and dislikes.  I mean, that's fine, but it then just stops there.  It seems incomplete, somehow.

That all goes to say that I enjoy your personal and informative comments included with each of your posts.  Learning never stops, does it?

Oh, no, no, I didn't perceive it as a critique, @GingerPeach, although that would have been fine too.  Woman Happy   I enjoy getting comments of various kinds on stuff I put up, as well as reading responses to other people's posts.  As you say, the more in-depth discussions get, the more edifying they can be.

I was trying to think, what is it about a house that makes me want to get other responses to it?   I find I have to like SOMETHING about it;  usually I like it at least 60%, maybe, and often more than that.  How about you, with the pictures you put up?

Although I've posted rooms that are not my style, I have to be able to recognize that they are pretty well done, or very good examples of that kind of style...  I've never posted a house that I can't stand!

Since I read a lot about decorating, am often half on the look-out for examples of certain designers I like, like Albert Hadley, Bunny Williams, William Yeoward, Phoebe Howard, etc. etc...

@Oznell , lovely!  i would have to have someone do the dusting though.  a bit too much decor for my liking.  take away the wall to wall carpet and I am in.  especisally love the entryway and kitchen.  LM
