I have seen SO many catalogs and catalogs that shoe everything from Christmas drapes to spreads, comforters and bath towels! They want to sell stock obviously, and want you to decorate the entire house!
Personally, my eyes need a to rest somewhat, and I don't want the storage issues or the over saturation of over doing every area.
What areas in your house do you decorate for Christmas?
I do the greatroom where the tree is, the dining room, the bath off of the kitchen, and a Santa on the kitchen table.

We have a small home...so no dining room, great room, den, family room, sun room, etc. I only decorate the kitchen and livingroom

The living room including the mantle and the buffet in the dining area. I don't decorate bathrooms or bedrooms. I used to do the top of kitchen cupboards but not anymore. I do a spring/summer theme and then a fall/winter, not specifically Christmas. I have more than enough decor to do the whole house but not the will to pack it all up.

I have beautiful tree ornaments and decorations I've collected over the years, so I decorate the living and dining rooms on the first floor, and use VPH's window candles on the upper two floors. Several other items are VPH, too. I also have a small nativity set that I spread out on the marble mantle in the living room. The figurines were collected by my father in Italy when he was very young, and they are Italian-made gesso over a hundred years old. Needless to say, they are priceless and irreplaceable, so I take very good care of them. That's enough for me.

When my husband was alive and my girls were living at home we decorated every room like crazy! But as they moved away and he died last year I didn't even put up a Christmas tree. I love the days leading up to Christmas, Christmas Day, not so much. So much hype for one day which seems like the shortest day of the year!
Last year my daughter who lives about 30 minutes away spent Christmas on a cruise with her husband's entire family. They shipped the presents, etc there.
Then that same daughter and my youngest daughter met all of us at my daughter's who lives in Orlando Florida, so we spent New Year's together. It was fun.
We skype, text every day, send pictures and so on so when we are together it's as if we live next door to each other. We are very close.
@ECBG you know that because you and I are facebook friends (love, love you).
This year my daughters are having a big party for me for family and friends. I turn 70 (Whoopee). Wish you were here Cathy! We'd dance on the table!
I don't like to drive at night so my daughter is sending a limo for me and my 'old' friends to take us and bring us back from the party.
Getting back to Christmas. I don't know what my daughter is going to do for Christmas this year, haven't talked about it yet. She has 4 children (ages 4 - 14) whom I'm close to. I'll probably give the Florida group their presents on my birthday as it is my granddaughter (the Florida one) her birthday the day after mine (she was my birthday present). The youngest daughter is spending Christmas in Germany and then going to Switzerland. She has friends there so she's going with another friend (all from high school) to visit.

I try to put something festive in every room but not on a grand scale in bedrooms or bathrooms, except the bathroom that guest use. I do a little more there. Just a pot of silk Poinsettias or another arrangement will make a room take on a holiday feel and fast and simple to do.

@Annabellethecat66 Sounds like a great time coming up for you. It's takes some planning to get families together at the same time once they are scattered around country. We have that problem but do so as much as we can.

@lucymo I can't take any credit for it! I just show up just like I did when my husband was alive. I wouldn't know where to start! Ha!
My daughters (especially my oldest daughter) is the planner. I said, "I do not drive in the dark so you guys have fun at the party". My daughter said, "Mom! It's taken care of. We are sending a limo for you and your friends so don't worry". Ha! That's the way it works in our family. When I went to Florida my oldest daughter coorinate it with the youngest and one bought my ticket and got me to the airport and the other (from Colorado) got the hotel reservations for the two of us and met me in Florida.
They learned from their Dad (don't let mom make them or they won't get done). Ha! We traveled all over Europe for a month and I showed up....they planned it and that worked for me. So, I guess they're just used to it.
I'll loan you my kids. I guarantee they'll organize you and your family so all you need to do is show up like me. Ha! It works well for us. In every family there's usually a planner who likes being the boss. I happen to have 3 daughters who defer to the oldest (43, 41 and 36), they are the total opposite of their scatter brained mom. Ha!

Well, to answer the question of decorating the whole house. In my case no, only living room and dining room. As another poster said, they are L shaped. We do put candle light in bow window. Also wreaths on all outside doors.
