Regardless of his background, Tim Gunn makes his huge salary from being a TV personality these days. Of course he will say something to get people to rehash and debate, and talk about him.
I find his description of cropped pants as anything from the knee to the ankle, and hitting at the largest part of the calf, ridiculously safe. That accounts for many different styles of pants, and yes, some are not flattering at all, on me. However, my crop pants hit right above my ankle pants. I never wear crop pants that stop at my calf. I love my crop pants.

@Sooner wrote:What looks bad is Mr. Gunn's bodyshaming and objectifying women. Shame on him. That's about as ugly as it gets.
I hope it keeps his cheers and opinions in the Bronx because they wouldn't be really popular where I live.
Did you read the actual article? It includes men. Gunn says:
"The male version is misleadingly referred to as “manpris.” Balderdash!"
There's no "body shaming" at all in the article, and he's not objectifying women in it. He's pointing out that proportionally speaking, cropped pants don't work. He compares them repeatedly to capri pants, which he likes. As Gunn points out, capris are more fitted and tailored and flatter the female shape; extended cut-offs, which is what cropped pants really are, do not.

I've watched Project Runway since it's inception and agree with Tim about what's happened with the judging.
I've always liked how Tim interacts with the competitors. He's kind, supportive and honest.

I think Tim knows what a crop pant is and isn't.

I agree with Tim for me. I never thought they looked good on me, so I never bought them. Tim has been talking about this for year as have Clinton and Stacy.

Although a little off topic, this quote from the article is my favorite:
"Proper shorts will fall to just above the knee."
Thank you, Tim Gunn! Now if only you can get that to sink in to all those Daisy Duke wearers around here...

I doubt that Daisy Duke wearers care if their shorts are "Proper" or not.

I never was a big fan of crop pants. I think I've only owned one pair.
To me what can make or break the crop pants outfit is the shoes. Some shoes can make them look appealing while other styles make them look like a bad fashion choice.

I don't think he does. Cropped pants come in a variety of silhouetttes.
Tapered cropped pants....
Cropped cargo pants
Slim cropped pants
I didn't name these -- Nordstrom did.

I don't see how the top 1/3 of your body is shoulder to waist. You'd think shoulder to hips. I'm not supposed to wear a top longer than my waist?
