I only like long pants. My inseam is a pathetic 26".

Leg of mutton...LOL!
Also, thanks for the pant length chart...I printed it for reference. I haven't heard the word "toreador" in ages. That is the length that I think is now called a cropped pant. But, I see so many lengths that I see as capri being referred to as cropped and vice versa. I generally know what lengths I like for whatever purposes. Gunn essentially says in the article that crop and capri get mixed up nowadays, and I believe that to be true.
I think there's also a distinction between a slim/straight cut cropped pant and a wide-leg.
Bottom line for me, I think whether a cropped/toreador length works for you or not is based on your inseam and shape of calf and ankle area. The longer your legs, the slimmer your calf/ankle area, the better the "toreador" length looks to my eye.
I used to refuse to wear "alternative lengths" because of the negative connotations (flood pants), but changed my mind...I like a capri or ankle pant for summer and wear them often.
YMMV.

I haven't read all of the posts!
Just may I say I saw a picture of myself in these once and... (I was trying to look fashionable) GASP never again! For me, I need all the leg length I can get -- so no, I never got the proportion right while wearing these.
OTOH... my DSIL who is willowy, looks great in them, even in flats!❤️

Nothing (and I mean nothing) gives you a shot of reality like a photo.

I was looking for pictures of my hair for my hair stylist and shuddered at some of my looks over the years.
I don't know why I thought some of them looked good.
