Good morning all, and thanks @PAlady for the start. So sorry your fur baby is not feeling well. Hope she feels better soon.

@KonaKat, you do such a good job with donations. I agree that a 3 hour trip just for the donations is a long way, unless you have other things to do or just want to take a drive. Sorry you are not feeling so well either.

@spix, pork chops sounds good, I think I am having brats for dinner. Don't know what else to go along with that. You also do well with donating things. Relaxing on the deck sounds like a great way to spend your afternoon.

@meallen616, thanks for the lovely graphic. And I hope you enjoy your Saturday.

@1jenniferjuniper, I'm sure @meallen616 will post when she wants to. Smiley LOL

@3suwm5, sorry you had storms, that is a lot of hail, funny about punking your children though. Hope your weather is not so severe today.

I have been out this morning finishing up some work while it is not yet hot, although it felt pretty hot to me, lol. I am about to jump in the shower and head to the store for a few things I find I am needing, yuck. No CIJ for me today. Hope everyone has a nice day. Waves...

Snicks ,  my post wasnt directed at you, I think it has to do with summer vacation and too much time on her hands, Lol!😀

Re: Shopaholics ODAT (Saturday, July 16th)

Good Morning/Afternoon, and thanks for getting us started, Susan.  That zucchini sauce sounds good.  Glad your DH liked it.  Sorry your furbaby isn't well.  Hope she is better soon.

Sorry you are not feeling well, Jean.  I'm lucky as far as donation places go -- there are at least three good places, including one that is about a mile away and another about two miles away.  However, I have been known to wait to donate until the car is bursting.  I sometimes feel like I will cancel an order if it takes too long to ship, but usually they send it just in time.

Glad you are having nice weather there Essie.  Good for you with gathering things for the sale in September.

Thanks for our daily greeting, meallen.  As usual, very pretty.

It is hot here for sure, snicks.  And, I ended up taking my walk later than normal since the hospice volunteer could not come to sit with DH today.  She called around 6:30 to say she was sick -- perhaps food poisoning.  If she feels better, she will be coming tomorrow.  Hope you managed to get things from the store and head back to the AC in your house.  Sometimes the short walk from the car to a building makes me realize how much I need AC -- yikes!

I hope your weather isn't too bad today 3suwm5.  You sound like a fun Mom.  I wouldn't think about joking that way with my DD.  Not sure why, because I like making people laugh.

I'm still learning the Fitbit, and it is fun.  I was particularly interested in how much I sleep, and it confirmed that I'm not getting that much rest (6 hours the night before last and 6 hours and 10 minutes last night), along with getting up once each night and being restless several times.  Part of that has to do with DH, of course, but I do have my own struggles with sleeping well.  DH's DIL and grandson are in Turkey, and she was posting on Facebook about the explosions, etc. in the city (Ankara).  I was worried and praying, and thank goodness they are okay.

I did fine with a pedometer to monitor my steps for almost 9 years, and I know the Fitbit is just a "want" item.  But, I am enjoying the diversion that it is providing.  I'm comfortable with my decision about DH, but that doesn't mean that I don't spend lots of time going over my decision.  Don't know if that makes any sense.

No CIJ items for me either, but I could use a few groceries.  Not sure if I feel like going out to purchase them, however.  DH seems to be okay today -- sleeping a lot, but that is normal.

Have a nice evening everyone!

Hugs,

Linda.

Re: Shopaholics ODAT (Saturday, July 16th)

Hi girls! Well, so much for the bright, sunny day that had been forecast. I woke up to overcast skies and thunder; when I went out to feed the critters there were a few drops of rain. Good day for staying in and reading, plus I want to get my kitchen drawers organized as well as some of the cabinet shelves - my food storage containers are out of control.

We had a nice drive to Jasper yesterday; I got a bunch of packages mailed off to the troops, went to the bank, and on the way home stopped at new new pizza place that opened a few weeks ago.  First time there...and last! It was one of those "ultra gourmet" pizza places with weird combinations, no ambiance, and high prices. The menu read, "No changes permitted - we like our recipes."  Yeah, well...just because you do, it doesn't mean everyone will.  I didn't want to just walk back out, so I ended up getting a child sized pizza with pepperoni ($5) to go. The crust wasn't bad - they use wood burning ovens - but the sauce had no seasoning whatsoever, there were just a few blobs of cheese on it here and there, and you had to hunt for the pepperoni...but there were whole basil leaves on it.  I checked the reviews on Yelp afterwards (I couldn't remember the name of the place to check beforehand), and it doesn't look like this place is going to be around for long. Many said that for a couple of pizzas and beers the bill came to $90 or more, yet they were served on paper plates and wit plastic cutlery; a few commented that when they ordered pizza to take out they were told to leave a tip in the jar for the counter person.  Oh well, at least I tried it...

Charlene, pretty much the only jewelry I have to sell are 3-4 broken rings; I sold most of the good stuff when the fool I married died and I discovered he "forgot" to change the beneficiary on the insurance, never made out a will, and his ex reneged on the offer to pay for the funeral from the insurance - I had to do it just to survive.  I do need to find my wedding and engagement rings and will sell them when I do - I don't need reminders of the biggest mistake of my life. Apart from that I just have some really unique rings that I don't want to part with, and I have a beautiful braided gold necklace that I never take off - I got it back in the days when I made big bucks and could walk into a store and buy anything I wanted; it's not just beautiful, it's a reminder of better days.  I'm still working on refinancing my mortgage; the guy at the bank told me I could get cash to get a new HVAC from that, so that problem will be taken care of.

Jean, I remember my days from Na'alehu, and the long, long drive to town...  Most days I didn't mind it, since it was such a beautiful drive, but those long drives sure make it hard to do things on the spur of the moment, don't they?

LindaL, Have you decided if DH will be in the assisted living place permanently or not?

Well, I need to send Mark yet another text to ask him when he intends to finish the work around here, then maybe I'll take a drive (sans dogs - I need a break) to Aldi (I'm out of cream cheese for frosting) and pick up some Tex-Mex, which I've been craving.

Hi to everyone - have a blessed day!

Re: Shopaholics ODAT (Saturday, July 16th)

Hello all, my sister is doing okay.  At least she is sleeping in bed at night now.

It got downright chilly last night.  The windows are open today and am enjoying the breeze and no humidity for as long as it lasts.

I cut the front and back grass and then refilled my Synthroid RX and grabbed a pizza.

Easy day all in all.

Re: Shopaholics ODAT (Saturday, July 16th)

Glad your sister is sort of okay, Bernie.  Good for you with the mowing.  Toward the end of her life, my Mom slept in a recliner.  It was okay for her, but the bed is probably a better choice for your sister.

Yes, Arlene -- I have decided to place DH at the memory care facility permanently assuming the two week "respite care" there works out.  I'm pretty confident that the two weeks will be fine.  Although I had considered bringing him home and then returning in a few months, the months became fewer and fewer.  I'm struggling to keep him safe/comfortable, etc., and I think it will be much better when I can just spend "quality" time with him instead.  Sorry the pizza place did not work out.  I love wood fired pizza, but the sauce is very important.  And, I hate overpaying.

Re: Shopaholics ODAT (Saturday, July 16th)

Arlene--I'm probably the only one who is familiar with Na'alehu and surrounding area. Trust me, when I say doing something on the spur of the moment here is easier because of the nature of the road leading to the destination. I hated driving that road to and from Na'alehu at night. I'm sorry that Mark isn't getting the work done on schedule.

Linda--I'm more interested in the sleep measurement function of the FitBit than I am in its counting steps, distances or calories burned. DH will be in good care while you are gone on the trip but I know that you will be thinking of him and will get updates.

Bernie--I just got a copy of the Insider which has a pair of shoes which is saying, "Bernie, Buy Me!" A282184. Apparently the color of the month for August is wine or deep berry, etc.

I was in the process of reading when the Kindle needed to be charged. At that point, I decided I was tired of the house. Since the weather was good, I decided to make the run to the city. It is a decent road with the exception of about ten miles and if iyou know the road, those miles aren't a problem. I actually felt better after making the trip. Since the car gets great mileage or at least I think it does, it was a low cost way of enjoying the afternoon.  I enjoy driving when the weather is good.

Re: Shopaholics ODAT (Saturday, July 16th)

Hello All,

I hope everyone is doing o.k.  The last few days we have been truck shopping.  As much as I usually like shopping, vehicle shopping does not fit in that category.  We always try to buy local but after less than satisfactory results, we went the out ot town route with much better results.

For those of you who shop at Bealls dept store, I wanted to mention that they are having a clothing drive that goes through Tuesday (I think).  Anyway, they do this a few times a year and when you bring in a donation, they give you a 10 dollar certificate for a purchase there.  Sometimes I use the certificate, sometimes I give it away...I just wanted to pass that on.

The last few weeks have been stressful but things are finally slowing down.  I am so glad.  Most of the medical stuff I mentioned, a few weeks ago, is not stabiilized.  I am so grateful.

Have a good rest of the weekend!!  Gayle
