Westerners may not think there is California chic, but we in the East coast see it. I look for fashion in pictures of people, and California does have a certain style, different from our New York style.
I wouldn't buy the Side stitch joggers, but I have shopped QVC items at higher prices. I think QVC has a diverse customer base, and many price points, though I think forum posters tend to be more conservative in their fashion tastes than the qvc offerings overall.
I see qvc actually working on bringng lower price points, with Hanes, Jockey, Anybody. The prices for the formerly cheaper lines are going up - Denim & Co., Susan Graver, while the quality of the materials for Denim & Co., seems to be going down (less cotton, more polyester). Susan Graver appears to be expanding into an infinite number of lines. Tolani, one of their better lines, is going with cheaper materials (polyester replacing modal). I am also worried that the quality of materials for some of the other better lines is going down.
Also, QVC fashions do look more conservative to me right now. Don't know if that is a trend, or just current inventory.
@NYCLatinaMe I think "California Chic" is a sales tactic to bring to mind celebrities, expensive clothing, bags and shoes and a leisurly, beach house lifesyle and cool vibe. It does exist, but not in NC.
Although I do like Side Stitch, I'm selectve and only purchase pieces on clearance unless it's an item I just have to have...rare at high retail prices.
FYI: Candace Cameron Bare and Barefoot Dreams also hawk that California chic as a reason to purchase. I think we need to purchase what we like, can afford and fits into the lifestyle we have no matter where we live.
Yes, @Shanus, I understand and agree. We are not all the same, not even geographically.

@Shanus wrote:Perhaps the number of clearance items and the endless shows of winter clothing on sale in Aug. when the news talks about heat waves across the country is a reflection of the higher prices. Some sold at the retail price, but it seems a lot did not.
I'm not sure I can justify many clothing purchases now since my lifestyle has drastically changed since Covid and now again being careful in crowds and Delta. I'm not as social and don't need more clothing. I'm being quite selective.
I think the reason for the endless fall fashion clearance shows are the lack of new merchandise (this came up on their most recent call with the financial press - as posted in, I think, Q Talk, QVC did not buy enough summer fashions), and the declines in fashion sales last fall and winter, because of the changes in lifestyle brought on by covid, that left them with that now old inventory.

@RollTide2008 But is potholder purse a real thing, or just an expression? If you saw my earlier post, I had to google... I am not a native English speaker, always interested in learning...
PS -- I do carry Lug bags. Lighweight, great for work... Doesn't bother me you don't.

I love the expression @RollTide2008! Thanks so much for explaining! I understand you perfectly!
And they do overdo it with the Lugs, but I guess they are showing variety, because everyone has different tastes and needs, as you state.
I do have some lovely Dooneys as well. My favorites are the pebble leather. They get taken out for "better" ocasions, which are less common these days. I used to be a leather bag only girl (❤️❤️❤️❤️). But for work, I was carrying a lot and my leather bags were killing me. Most New York City people don't drive, so we carry around what we may need throughout the day, so I have always been a big bag girl.
When I hit my 50s, my sore shoulders were begging to say good bye to my large leather bags and welcomed the organized large Lug bags.
I will admit to buying some small ones for kicking around too...
I found last year the Think Royln bags, which are much nicer, but I am afraid are probably still potholders...

These pants have paint dots on them that make them appear to me at least like one has been painting and spilled paint all over the pants. It's a California sheek look according to the designer rep. Well to each their own, and enjoy if you buy them but I would not spend $120 (at least w/tax and shipping) on a pair of pants that make me look like I have been painting and went straight out to dinner ! Wow, what's fashion to some is not fashion to others
How true. Everything cannot be your style. Do you walk into Nordstroms and like every single thing? Don't watch the presentation or buy the item if you don't like it.

QVC does not give air time to items that do not sell.
