Re: O/T Walgreens or Walmart?

I will be glad when I once again live in a town with a shop-able walmart. The ones here are wretched places. (not that it has ever been my favorite place to go by any means). Thank you for the heads up on the meds. One thing I can say for Walgreens in regards to compounded medications: sometimes they can be purchased at a fraction of the cost there as opposed to other places. Always call around on your prescriptions to get the best price. It shouldn't be that way, but it is. Same for vaccinations and such for travel, work, and the like.

Re: O/T Walgreens or Walmart?

Walgreens did have a program you could sign up for where generic meds were about the same price as Walmart ($4 or $10/90 days or something like that). I'm not on the med I was using it for anymore so don't know if they still do. It was much more convenient for me even though I think it was about $20 to sign up. Still better than driving to and dealing with Walmart. Another thing to note, sometimes this program is much cheaper than your generic copay but Walgreens will automatically fill under your insurance on file unless you specifically tell them. All this is getting to be a pain to keep up with especially when you are dealing with health issues but it's becoming a necessary evil these days. Also, sometimes you can flat out pay for a generic drug under no insurance and buy a 90 day supply cheaper than with insurance copays restricting the number you can buy per month. Hope that makes sense.

Re: O/T Walgreens or Walmart?

Although I do not shop at Walmart, I have heard good things about their script prices.

I don't use Walgreens or Target. I use the pharmacy within my grocery store b/c I find it most convenient. Unfortunately, I know I can always use something at the grocery store, or I schedule my shopping around picking up any script. Luckily, we don't have many scripts to fill, but I would still go there if I did.

I DO think it pays to shop around for everything. Of course, we all pay for convenience sometimes--I know I do. But it does make a difference to check out other store's prices.

We get our scripts at Walmart. Their Relion strips are only $9 for 50. I take 12 meds and if I had to pay full price we couldn't afford it. I probably would have been dead long ago.

Rite-Aid, Walgreens and CVS have the highest prices. Sometime the mail order listed has the highest.

This is a good comparison website: Goodrx . com

Enter your zipcode and the medication name. (out of pocket prices shown)

I agree about GoodRx as a comparison site. My prescriptions are only covered if filled by CVS or CVS Caremark, so I'm locked in for now. The Walmart pharmacy closest to me is terrible. I used to go there for an OTC item that's very expensive and they had it for $3 less than other places. The woman at the register was always ridiculously slow and they always had a long line. I hope your Walmart is better!

Ohh sarpy! I'm so sorry! My friend also pays 100's monthly and that includes her medicare copay..I am in hopes we can find a better solution for her at Costco or Walmart.

I also use the Relion strips and WM has been fine for me. If you use insulin, I know you can get that free. No way could I afford mine! Please lmk if you need info on that. I got that from Lizzy's diabetic 2 lounge..lots of cute pictures!

Use Target for convenience and security. Would never use Wal-Mart, stores are dirty, messy and yes, scary.

Dirty, messy and customer service/assistance is awful. I try to avoid shopping at our local stores!

I don't take any medication on a regular basis & rarely have a prescription to fill but I've used both Walgreen's & WalMart. Both are fine.

Walgreen's is a little closer to my home but WM is usually more convenient because I alwaysy have a few things to pick up there. The WM close to me is pretty nice & the CS is great. I trust the pharmacists.

I haven't used Walmart's pharmacy, mainly because the Walmarts around here are a mess and a little scary. But I switched from Walgreens pharmacy to Target several years ago and saved a lot. The other plus was not having to deal with the Walgreens pharmacists, who always acted like you were bothering them when you walked up to the counter.

I won't use Walgreen's for this reason.
