Re: Models Should Reflect QVC's Typical Customer

Look in any fashion magazine, catalog, any runway, 90% of television shows and you will see it's not just QVC. Fashion models are notoriously stick-thin, so I'd say QVC's models are closer to being realistic than most. I wear a QVC size small, but I would love to see them use models closer to my height, 5'4". They won't though, because they would show how hideous most of their dresses look when they hit mid-calf.

REALLY?????????? Do you honestly think that a typical QVC customer is 5'10", size 4, and is under 35 y/o??

And do you honestly think the typical QVC customer is 65+, 5'2 and wears a 2X?

I couldn't say what the average QVC customer's sizes are, but the average American woman is 14, not 4 or 2X, which falls in line with the size of the average model. But I do believe the average QVC shopper is well over 35 and probably closer to 50. So no, I don't believe the models are very close to the average QVC shopper and I think JamaicaJammer has a good point.

But it's still TV and still advertising, so we're not going to see that.

I think the good solution would be allow the reviewers to post pictures of themselves wearing it in their review.

And she's only 5'4", where there's less body to look more proportioned.

Re: Models Should Reflect QVC's Typical Customer

I get so tired of seeing these gargantuan fashion models parading around in outfits that I, at 5'3", am supposed to buy. They need more petite models. They had one, but I haven't seen her in a long time. I liked that petite model because she was a bit shorter than I, so I got to feel taller. A win-win, IMO!

About 10 years ago, I bought a pantsuit that Lisa Robertson was modeling gorgeously. When it arrived and I put it on, the sleeves and pant legs looked like I was a child wearing my mother's clothing. I so looked forward to getting that navy outfit, but I sent it back immediately. What a disappointment.

According to the last gov't stats the average American woman is 5'4"" and weighs 164 pounds.

I am only 5' and wear a size 4p so I never see myself on the Q. The closest person in size to me is Sharon Feich.

Why does it matter the age and shape of the models? Most retailers hire young women for modeling clothing and makeup presentations, and they seem to still be successful in selling to the women that these items appeal to. I personally have enough shopping sense to figure out what works for me, and what I should pass on.

LindaKay used to model all the time and she was at least in her 60s. She may have retired. I think they use models older than you realize. I also appreciate the older models they use on the makeup shows. Helen just turned 70. I do wish they would let the petite models model the regular sized clothes when petites not offered. It sure would help me decide if I could wear it or it would be overwhelming @ 5'1"".

On 3/10/2014 Grace K said: Jonbon I will get tired of it when Carolyn and Leah tell the truth or when someone proves me wrong. If any of you have watched them on QVC for a few years, it should be obvious that they have grown wider and wider. So it is impossible to remain the same size (LARGE) and continue to gain weight. Please don't insult my intelligence or anyone else's who can see what I clearly see. The others only dream the same dream Carolyn and Leah do. Perhaps someone is telling them to say that they are a size LARGE. In that case, what happened to truth in advertising? And what happens to ladies who believe them and then constantly have to return things because they don't fit? And please stop the stories about hi def cameras! Any excuse... as for the poster who said that everyone knows that size 12-14 is not plus size, maybe so. Or for the poster who was insulted by the word obesity. Have you ever heard the clinical definition of obesity? Do your BMI. Check the charts. Some, not all, will be surprised.

Well there you go. I disagree with your basic premise -- that you (or anyone) can accurately judge someone's size (in Q clothing sizes, mind you) by seeing her on TV. We get it. You don't believe that Carolyn is stating the size she is truly wearing. Some of us do.
