Re: Made in China?

Virtually all clothing today is made in China! Look at your labels. Once in awhile SG will tell the audience when something is made in USA and I know QVC is not too happy that she does that.  The USA has long partnered with China for so many things..... the most frigtening now are the medicines and ingredients therein that come from China. Too bad we cannot wear Irish woolens and linens --- St. Pat's Day all those products were indeed made in Ireland. Also check out The Vermont Country Store's latest catalogue --- many items state they are made in USA. Garment industry moved  out of USA due to union costs back in the 90's at least. WE have created our own monster to a great degree.

Maybe I am stupid but why not buy clothing that is made in Vietnam, Mexico, India.  Many brands have big business with China so it will not be like they will or want to wean overnight, but the fact is we can reject buying for a while.  There is going to be a huge recession or maybe depression soon so many of (me) us will not be buying anyway.  Unfortunately we cannot buy farm land and grow our own vegeatables because BG, BFF of China has bought up all the farmland.

This country's leaders should be ashamed to buy from China for the human rights' violations and the way they lie about their environmental policies.  That might be the most inhumane place on earth except another one of "our friendly allies, Iran."

Would be nice to see some clothing made in a few other countries.

Would be refreshing, imo.

Just thought about something.  Canada is our neighbor.......easier to ship clothing from Canada to the U.S.

Even from Mexico, our other neighbor.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

@Nonametoday  Hasn't bought any farmland around here. I guess I can post political also but I don't want to get as obvious.

@proudlyfromNJ   Not sure why you choose not to now.

Canada has lost clothing manufacturers and retailers due to the pandemic.

I don't even think that a lot of clothing is manufactured in China anymore as they are too expensive - probably only higher end clothing is made in China. A lot of cheaper clothing is manufactured in Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

Take a look at your recent shoe purchases. Most athletic shoes are now made in Vietnam and not China.

Has QVC ever sold a line made exclusively in the USA? I haven't seen one.

The sad thing is that HSN used to have Slinky that was predominantly American made. Now they're affiliated with QVC and when they took over Vanessa Williams line it's no longer made in the US?! I don't believe that was her choice.....

TYI:  I'm glad to know that they are 'spreading out' (where manufacturing is) countries.

Competition leads to better quality, prices, etc.

As long as it's not just one main country, I'm somewhat happier.  Not completely, though.

Btw, I recently ran across a movie called "Outsourced" (or something similar).  Set in India.

Interesting, entertaining movie.
