I too think if you feel you look silly in an out fit you probably do, there is something to be said for age appropriate dressing. That being said, you don't need to dress like an old person as long as you keep your body type in mind.
Sometimes we thing we look good in some things and we really don't, there's some thing to be said for age appropriate dressing.

Anyone older than a toddler is too old for leggings, IMO.

Everyone has their own style. Wear what you like. Really.

I don't think there is an age that it's not appropriate. I think as long as someone feels that they look good and are comfortable in this look that it works.

I wear denim leggings with boots & longer top in the winter. I wear boot cut or skinny jeans with a tee in summer. I will wear these till I get fat and can't.

Leggings and a tunic are good for any age IMO. Flats or boots are fine.
What doesn't work for any age are leggings and the short skirt. JMHO I think that look is for teens and looks silly on anyone over 22.

Trust me, if I didn't my kids would let me know loud and clear. How old is too old for leggings, riding boots and a long tunic top, or long cardigan? I love this look and do wear it frequently, however lately I feel that I look silly and I'm not sure it's appropriate for me at age 55.
