How old is too old for leggings, riding boots and a long tunic top, or long cardigan? I love this look and do wear it frequently, however lately I feel that I look silly and I'm not sure it's appropriate for me at age 55.

Are you kidding? I think it's totally appropriate! It's very classy, imo.

There are so many choices today in fashion that there is something for everyone. No one should let age determine their fashion choices because just about everything can be modified.

My aunt will be 87 soon. She wears leggings quite well. She is very stylish. She always has been. She wears great tunics and tops. She still has great legs!

It really does depend on your legs and your body. I saw a lady recently in Walgreens - she was extremely thin - no backside and had leggings on with a short top - the seat was all baggy and they were draped in folds on her legs - looked awful. Also , of course, look terrible on heavy ladies as well. It is a very small % of ladies who can wear this style and look good in them. Of course, anyone can wear them - the tricky part is to look good while doing so.

Age is a number, nothing else. Do what makes you happy.

55? Darlin' you're a mere child! I could've babysat for you! I'm 69 and as long as I've got the legs for that, I'll wear the skinnies and leggings and (with all due immodesty!) look darn good doing it! P.S. I want to be D Oro's aunt when I grow up!

Clearly, you have to look in a full length mirror and at all sides and decide for yourself.

I think she is correct - there are people who think life ends at 60 and behave and look accordingly, and there are people like myself who look and act a lot younger than they are because they have a young outlook on life. I will wear leggings with tunics as long as I feel comfortable doing so. They both hide a multitude of sins and are so much more comfortable than jeans. I disagree that only thin people should wear leggings. Like any article of clothing and fashion choice, as long as they fit properly they can work for you. The problem arises when a size 18 tries to squeeze themselves into a size 12. There are also less expensive leggings that are made of very thin material and therefore show every lump and bump. So I guess I'm saying, used with common sense, leggings can be a fashion choice on just about anyone of any age. Enjoy!

Well stated. I think we've all met the "old" 50 year olds and the "young" 70 year olds. You have a very wise, observant mother. Reminds me of mine. Thanks for the response.

I don't think it's a matter of age as much as your shape and what you wear with the leggings. I agree with the other poster that heavy legs or too thin legs don't look good in leggings.

Also, the tunic has to be long enough. I think a really cute look is a short dress with the leggings, and flats.

I'm 56 and would never wear them, even around the house. I have chubby, arthritic knees, and jeans or wide leg pants work best for me.

Very few women look good in leggings, but that doesn't stop the rest from trying! Just try to show some respect for those who must walk behind you...
