Shawn's been using it too.

My midwestern girlfriend just called me this recently - I'm fromthe northeast.

I can't say I find it offensive.  Just kind of silly.  There always has to be some new word or phrase.

@FranandZoe Someone trying to be something they aren't to my ears.

@Andreatoo  Yes, Mally is guilty of calling us "Mommy". I'm not her Mommy.

Then don't go to 99% of the small, excellent, mom & pop diners in the Bronx, NY.  Nearly every waitress will call you Mommy.  "Good morning Mommy, can I get you coffee?"How were those pancakes Mommy?"

It's meant and used as a term of endearment, and to make you feel that you are among friends and feel right at home.

But I admit, Mally is forcing it, since you really should know your audience, and region, before using it.

same thing in the baltimore area with the word HON......it is said a lot here in our area. we even have a HON FEST. it is definitely not meant to be rude to anyone and you will see all ages and genders use the word.

LOL i think i explained this before on another thread from @Shanus  recently.

Just sound like more teenage lingo that adult hosts like to use.

@Shanus  @Andreatoo  And most of us haven't been called "Mommy" for decades! Mally's use of that term makes my skin crawl. I cannot watch/listen to her creepy babytalk.

@BirkiLady @Shanus
It actually doesn't bother me when Mally does it because she says it with affection. It always irked me coming from young men because it came off sleazy and a little bit condescending. And of course they always thought they were cute and slick.

If I don't like you or I don't like some thing you're doing or saying I am horrible at hiding how I feel. There was a salesman I dealt with regularly that often called me mama and one day I just snapped! He never called me that again and everyone that witnessed the incident thought it was epic! LOL (he was a jerk)

Mally isn't saying "mommy". She's saying "mami" which is a spanish slang used for a woman.

I'm at a loss at what to call females.  Women, ladies, gals, girls?
