Some claim silk can be laundered at home.  I tried it once, but didn't care for the outcome after ironing it and one wearing. It simple didn't have the polished appearance it should have had. Actually, I was a wrinkled mess!

 

Don't think it was anything to do with processing since silk is a natural fiber (thread) and can be woven into any pattern depending on the mm weight used (like wool or linen). 

 

After that time, all my silks are cared for by the dry cleaners which ensures a longer life of the garment and keeps me happy with the appearance. Some fabrics have always deserved TLC!
