I've been posting on and off several boards since 2001. I was once on a very contentious political board that actually became torn into two factions and one side went after the other side (by locating ISPs, names, locations and one person actually "went after" another person!!).... so nothing surprises me.....
I don't share personal information, but will share personal experiences and don't make them up because it would just be too dang exhausting ......

The person is going to keep doing what they're doing regardless. But people don't want the "fakes" to believe they're getting away with it and that no one knows, they're so clever, etc., so they question and call-out.
Your last statement makes some sense moonchilde. I suppose we do the fakers no favor by letting them think they're fooling anyone. And I suppose it would make you or others feel better by calling them out. Otherwise, who cares?
I don't remotely qualify for any calling-out of "you-used-to-be" simply because I'm not on the forums nearly enough, in nearly enough different areas, to pay much attention to who might be who else. But I do pay attention when others, who spend (apparently) a LOT of time here comment on this. I make up my own mind about who, if indeed anyone, has it right. I have been witness to what I believe are drama-creating tall tales, but again, not around so much that I personally care deeply. Yet I can see why people do care more than I want to be invested, that there are impostors in the pool.

I think people make judgements on people they never talked to face to face and a lot of assuming goes on here

I've been on wild-n-wooly forums for almost that long (2003 for me) - interestingly, not political but personality type! It has really taught me to hold my own and to decide for myself when I'll play and when there's no point (when people are attempting to play me). Nothing truly surprises me any more, and I've learned what all forums have in common as far as types of posters, communication methods, posting styles, etc.
Like you I have learned the hard way to keep my identity to myself. Even on the Amazon forums, attempts have been made to have people fired from their jobs and otherwise harassed in real life.

I don't pretend to be a size 2, or very wealthy, or live in a gorgeous gated community, or have a marvelous career making tons of money. Sometimes I read some of the posts and I just know the poster is making up most of the things that they post. I guess since we are all anonymous it really doesn't matter. Do any of you ever feel this way?? Just wondering...
I don't feel this way because maybe they do and you just can't relate. Remember we are all from different walks of life on these threads. Some seem to think everyone is like them and think about them as their next door neighbor. Get real.
Very well said! I totally agree.

I'm kornfused. It doesn't cross my mind that anyone is pretending or faking an identity. Why should it bother any of us if people on this forum are smart, talented, creative, capable, accomplished, well-traveled, fashionable people? There are also people on the forum who share their struggles and daily issues. I also don't doubt them. I don't understand hyper scrutiny or skepticism of posters.
What is more concerning to me is people with very few posts initiating critical, negative or controversial subjects. We're seeing this a lot.

Over the years I have learned a few things to be true, in my life anyway. If you have money, you do not talk about it. I have also learned it is best not to talk if you have it and not to talk if you don't have it. I have found the people with the most fabulous jobs and incomes never feel the need to share how well they have done, especially with strangers. They know who they are, and what they have, they do not boast. I believe one's life is no better than another's life, it is just different. We are all just different. And as far as "money" rich goes, a 100,000 in one part of the country does not spend like 100,000 in another part of the country.
To answer your post cookie, no, I do not always believe them. These boasting posts are pretty rare. But I guess it makes them feel better. I think I have more of a problem with the pompous, no-it-all's, who flaunt knowledge like a weapon against the evil "idiots". LOL! It is pretty easy to copy and paste articles off the internet without real knowledge of the entire subject. But, I guess it makes for good conversation. Posters go back and forth with copy and paste for 200 posts, before they get worn out. JMHO and nothing else.
There are some pretty great posters on the forums, that is the good part!

Don't be ridiculous. We use the ride-on mower and strap the Dyson onto the back.
