I've been having issues with my Dell laptop since I got it over a year ago. It has the option of using a mouse or using it with the touchpad. I've been thinking my laptop was possessed! While I was using the mouse the screeen would sporatically start going bonkers! Bubble-like things floating, everything flashing, I had no control over anything. My son is an IT and he said it was the touchscreen. He disabled it and disabled the pen for the touchscreen and I finally have a computer that is "normal". I will NEVER use a touchscreen again. I can navigate fine with the touchpad, but I'd rather have a mouse.

When I first got this laptop 4 years ago, I felt I'd never get used to the touchpad.  Now, I barely have any mouse skills left!  My library computers are still all mouse, and I cn't believe how clumsy I find them.

I have only laptops now and I decided early on that I totally did NOT like the touchpad/scrolly thing.

So, I use mouses.  The Logitech Marble Mouse is my favorite one and I have several.   I keep all my laptops, when in use, on laptop stands and the one here in the living room also sits on a flat thing I made from a metal sign covered in fabric, with the stand on top of that.  There is room for my mouse to the left (I'm left-handed), and it's perfect.

I really didn't like the regular mouses, however, when they were those ones that you have on a mouse pad and you move the whole unit around.  I knew that would mess my hands up even more.  An internet friend introduced me to the Marble Mouse in the year 2000 and I have never looked back.

You hand fits over it nicely.  It stays in one place.  Perfect!

Mousie..mousie...here little mousie!!!!    I have a heavy piece of cardboard covering the touchpad, since it's right above the spacebar, and I seem to activiate it accidentally...................

You should be able to turn off the touchpad, for when you have a mouse in use.    There are two ways on most computers that I know of -

1)  on one of the 'F' buttons (top of keyboard) you will see the picture of a mouse and one with the 'line through a circle' over it.  That can be used.

2)   In the control panel there are settings for 'Mouse' and there is one you can check or uncheck to have it disable the touchpad when you are using a mouse.

If it weren't for that, I'd be in trouble because I rest my hands on the area below the keyboard!

Check it out!  Smiley Happy

I am definitely a wireless mouse! I find it's so much easier to navigate with a mouse.

I've had a touchpad for the last 3 laptops I've owned and can't imagine having to deal with a mouse and move my right hand back and forth, back and forth, back and forth ...  ugh!

A friend wanted to show me something on her desktop and had me sit down at her computer and directed me to the site.   Her mouse was the most uncomfortable, unwieldly and imprecise thing I've ever tried to use .... honestly, I don't understand how anyone can use a mouse!

JMO, of course.

I prefer a mouse, but with my laptop I am often not at the desk where the mouse is, so I use the touch pad. I am finally used to it.
