I have a Samsung digital camera that came up with the message 'memory full'. I always take off my photos and put them on my IMac so I don't keep photos on my camera but I still have the message.

I googled all I could about the memory card and also got the pdf instructions for my camera but the directions I got to delete the internal memory made no sense!! Do I need a memory card, if I don't store photos on the camera what is the card for, or I know I could also purchase a new memory card but what I'd really like to do is erase the internal memory but need advice, if anyone has any for me! Thanks!!

If you can link the PDF file, maybe someone else can read it and see if it makes sense to them so they can better explain it to you.

Some cameras have internal memory but it's very small. Most people need to use a SD card. You need to get into the menu and delete the photos from the internal memory and make sure it's set to place photos on the SD card.

this is what I have been trying to do but even reading the manual has not helped to figure out how to get there.

Which model do you have? Have you formatted the card?

The camera is a Samsung BL 1050. I have had the camera for years, so I am not sure about formatting...I think we just bought a card, put it in and took photos!

I always used to feel pretty confident about electronics and messing around with things but any more I don't have a clue......

We don't have a Samsung camera but all the cameras we have had that use an SD card usually have a: menu/settings/memory=choose between internal or memory card

The Fuji my wife now has automatically switches to SD memory mode when a card it put into the card slot. The SD then becomes the "default" memory setting. Most cameras that have memory cards slots also have an option that comes up asking "format card" or something like that.

How big a card can be used in this camera? Never mind I see you can use a 4G card. Seems to me if you put in a card something would become and option as to which memory the user chooses. If you can put a card it and it shows the memory is going to the card I wouldn't even fool around with the internal memory, but that is just me.

I looked up this camera and it has little memory, only 17mb Flash memory which nowadays is pretty small.

How have you been putting the pictures on your Mac? Do you take the card out of the camera and plug it into the Mac or plug the camera into the Mac? You might be copying the pictures to your Mac but not deleting them from the card. Maybe your card is actually full.

If it's saying the internal memory is full I bet you can see them and delete them by first taking the card out of the camera and seeing if they display. Unless you first need to copy them to the card to save them.

I looked at the pdf manual and didn't see how to access or delete the internal memory but here's the link

Thanks VolvoGirl for looking at the manual...

I plug the camera into my IMac and a folder comes up and I take the photos out of the folder and put on my desktop. I have deleted everything as well as the empty folder but it still says 'memory full' (not internal memory full)....could I just need a new card?

I'll take the card out and see what happens. Thank you for your assistance.

Really? When I connect my camera into my iMac, iPhoto opens and imports my photos. I have the option to delete or keep the photos on the SD card. Why would you want them on your desktop?
