About 3 weeks ago I began getting the following error message on my ipad mini. Not sure if it is an Apple problem, iTunes problem, Dell problem or something else. Hope someone may be able to help.

Error Message:

iTunes cannot backup ipad because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with ipad.

I have been backing up/syncing for a year. Don't know why I am getting this message now. I am not computer savvy so I am not sure where to look for the backup or how I can tell if it is corrupt or not compatible.

Re: ipad Mini Problem/Question

If you have Apple Care call them. I had a problem yesterday and they were terrific. The problem turned out to be AT&T and apple connected me with them to fix the issue. When I called AT&T the day before they gave me a case number and told me someone would be in touch in a few days. Apple knew how to cut thru that response.

Re: ipad Mini Problem/Question

Try deleting your older backup from iTunes, then you should be able to do a backup again.

<h2 style="margin: 1.2em 0px 0px; padding: 0px; font-size: 32px; font-weight: 200; font-style: normal; line-height: 1.15; font-family: 'Myriad Set Pro', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; color: #333333;"> Delete a backup</h2>

If you want to delete a backup created by iTunes:

  1. Open iTunes Preferences: Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
  2. Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences. Learn how to turn on menus in Windows 7 and 8.
  3. Click Devices. (The iOS device doesn't need to be connected.)
  4. iTunes will show the phone number, International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number, and serial number of the backed up iPhone when you position your mouse pointer over a backup. (Only the serial number will be shown for iPad and iPod touch). You can use this to find the backup you want to delete.
  5. Select the backup you want to remove.
  6. Click Delete Backup.
  7. When prompted, confirm that you want to remove the selected backup by clicking Delete Backup.
  8. Click OK to close the iTunes Preferences Window.

Backups that have a date and time stamp in the backup name are copies of backups created by restoring the iOS device. The date and time in the left column are when the restore-from-backup occurred. The date and time in the right column are the last synced date; this shows how current the data is.
