What's A Good TV

I have an 11 year old TV in my living room and would love to purchase something else. My TV is square shaped, all cabinet, and not HD. The set still works but I feel it is obsolete. Do you think 3D is the way of the future or not necessary? I definitely want one that has a web browser. I don't know the difference between plasma, LCD, and LED. I've also had every brand of TV some are better than others. According to HSN they said Samsung has been number 1 for 7 years in a row. Can anyone recommend a TV or brand that they like? TIA
