Best Back-up for Hard Drive?

I am asking for help b/c I think my hard drive is about to crash. A black screen appeared two days ago that said "Preparing for crash dump... now dumping 100 percent of memory."

I need a hard-drive back-up that easily stores all of my files; yet will easily transfer them back if the computer crashes, right? Do I need a hard-drive back-up that also saves operating systems or software programs?
