I prefer PC to Mac.

I love my macbook air, but if I didn't need it for school, I might stick to something like an iPad. You can't drag me kicking and screaming back to products that run on windows. If someone were to give me a brand new pc with all the bells and whistles, I'd sell it on Craigslist. Blunt, but true.

My husband has a Chromebook, which he really likes and finds easier to use than the Windows 8 laptop that he was trying to get used to, and just didn't like very much.
I would try and help him look up how to use it on our desktop computer, as in looking for tutorials, etc., and he just found it to be too frustrating.
I didn't care too much for Windows 8 myself. Some people just don't like it, and are waiting for Windows 10 to come out, or are using tablets or Chromebooks instead.

I also made the switch from a pc to an iMac about 4 months ago. I had no problems adjusting to the mac and any questions I have can easily be answered through Apple or googling.
My last computer was a 2005 XP and I liked it, but it was old and Norton Antivirus running on it was slowing it to a snail's pace. I heard a lot of complaints about Windows 8+ and didn't want to go that route so decided to make the switch. So far I really like it!

I was wondering what are the differences in the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air? Are they more or less priced the same? Also does anyone own a Surface Pro 3 and how do you like it?I've seen the commercial for it and it looks good.

I, too, would like to know the difference between the Pro and the Air. I am struggling along on two laptops right now...one running W7 and one running W8.1. Both have issues of their own, so I am trying to make it until W10 is released or just bite the bullet...aka spend the money...and go with an Apple product. I am really tired of having Window problems, and I agree that Norton slows down my laptops. A tablet won't work for my purposes, so I need a laptop, and I also prefer a CD drive.

I really only use it for surfing the web, watching videos, checking email, that kind of stuff. I probably could get by without one, When I bought my present computer I thought I needed all the bells and whistles and spent over $800 at the time. This time I wouldn't spend as much unless I decided to go with a Mac or Surface Pro 3.
To me, I just don't see the need to spend a bunch of money on Mac when it's not necessary. I just don't. For some people they think they have to have one, for others they may need it. Best thing I ever did was go to Best Buy and talk to a salesman about what I wanted. He steered me towards my HP because it fits my needs and uses perfectly. He said there was no reason for me to make a huge investment for what I use it for. Here I am all these years later and still in love with the thing. So don't be persuaded to buy a Mac because you think you need it. Go out there and compare both.

I have and love the Surface Pro3. Switching to Windows 8.1 was not an issue at all and I love the tablet form factor. There are many Apple fans here and I do have an Ipad2 but I prefer the Windows ecosystem. I found the Apple versions of Word and Excel an exercise in frustration! In my opinion all the hysteria over Windows 8.1 is ridiculous. The estimated release for Windows 10 is fall 2015 so waiting may not be an option for everyone. From the usage you describe, you probably can get along nicely with just the Ipad.
