I am not tech savvy at all so forgive me if this is a stupid question. I was looking at Best Buy's website at the MacBook Pro and Air and was wondering if someone could explain the difference between GB and Flash Storage. Does one need 8GB over 4GB?

Tt's me again! I saw on Best Buy's website they're throwing in 6 month virus protection software for you MacBook. I thought the beauty of having an Apple computer was you didn't get viruses and had no need for virus protection software? Am I mistaken?

I really wonder if MS tested Windows 8 on a focus group - at all! What a horrible OS, and frankly, I'm having trouble justifying another purchase with more Windows, even if "improved". Windows 10 does look "better", but they just couldn't find it within themselves to eliminate those in your face T I L E S...

First, do you need a computer? How do you use the computer? Is the current one giving you trouble? Does the current one do what you want it to do? My advice always has been to purchase a new computer ONLY when the one you currently have is beginning to give you trouble in some way or other. The iMAC I'm using right now is about 6 years old and seems to be doing OK. I had the hard drive replaced under the free replacement program several years ago and it still seems to be going strong. I have an old MAC Operating System that also works OK for me. I may try to upgrade that or, if I want to, get a new computer.
Second, about Apple computers and "adapting". I used only PC's for years. Almost a decade ago I decided to switch to Apple because I wanted to. I got a MacBook and went to work learning about it and how to do things. I swear that the machine taught me what to do with only minor whimpers now and then which were resolved by Apple tech support. When it began to have problems, I purchased my current iMAC.
Apple's tech support has traditionally been rated at the top of the heap. You can buy "Apple Care" when you purchase a new Apple product. It extends the warranty to 3 years and gives you access to tech support and service. I purchase Apple Care for peace of mind. It is the ONLY extended service plan I'd use. I WOULD NOT trust "3rd Party" tech support and service plans.

Flash storage means there is a type of hard drive that doesn't have disks. It's similar to the type of storage you have in an USB flash drive/thumb drive. Since there aren't moving parts, it boots and works faster.
Always get the most RAM or memory you can afford or the computer will hold. Both of my MAC computers have 8 GB. There are three main components that effect the performance, Processor speed, RAM and hard drive speed. No one want a slow computer.

Thanks to everyone for their advice. As far as needing a computer mine runs slow and does all these odd things. Sometimes I feel like throwing it across the room! I'm going to hold out as long as I can. This will also help me save up a little more money. Worse comes to worse I still have other devices I can use.

I can't get over how many posters assume everyone has an Apple store nearby. If you don't live near a big city, you're SOL. There is no reason why you can't buy an Apple computer at Best Buy. If you want Apple Care, contact the company and buy it.

That's true. You bring up a good point, Glb.
I live in a rural area, and we don't have any Apple stores near us. However, we do have Best Buys in our area, and they do sell Apple products. There are other stores that sell Apple products, too.
