Re: Please help this computer idiot. Adobe flash vs QVC

I am resigned now to using Firefox, but am still mystified as to why I can't access the videos on QVC only. It is beyond weird. I think I will email them, just out of curiosity. It has to be something in my settings because a friend with same computer, gets video on qvc with IE. But there are a bizzillion settings so we can't compare side by side the settings we each have checked. I know Java script and Java are running and enabled as are Adobe reader, flashplayer. All updates are current as of this morning.

As I said, I don't need the videos with IE on QVC, it just makes me mad and is pussling that I can't.

Have you deleted your TIFs recently?

Okay, I will bite and show my true ignorance{#emotions_dlg.blushing} What is a TIF?

Something else is weird, since this computer is new, I hadn't a chance to do this, but today my daughter sent a pic to my email from her iphone of my grandsons. I usually just click pics (they are first so small) and it enlarges the photo. Now a window comes up from notepad, and it is all encryted. The only way I can enlarge the photo is to download it to my desktop and go there. It is such a hassle. I don't know what programs to click or unclick in options , under settings.

deep sigh.

I don't know about your flash problems. But...

You can right click on the picture in mail, and go to "open with", and select a program from the lust to open the picture with. I am on Mac now, so its been a while sine I used windows, but I think there is a pre-installed default program called picture viewer, or maybe its just called viewer. See if that is on the list.

You can probably go into your settings and tell it to automatically open all pictures in viewer. But again, its been a while since I have been on windows, so not sure I am the right person to provide details on how to set that up.

I think some of the problems you are having is because its a new computer you just don't have your settings set up like you did on the other. Then on top of it, you have windows 8 to deal with. In time you'll get things figured out. In the meantime, this gives you something new to learn...enjoy.

When you're on the QVC site, look on the address bar to the right of where the URL is. If you see a little blue circle with a line through it, click on it. A box should open. Click the Turn off ActiveX Filtering button.

I have same issue when using Explorer 11. I have 8.1, too. Make sure you get latest 8.1 update. I had to add Google Chrome as a Browser. I think I get the videos when I access the Q on Google Chrome, but it could be the opposite--I can get videos on Explorer and not Chrome. I have latest Adobe version. I have all the latest Microsoft updates. I have updated all HP and McCaffee. Try downloading Google Chrome Browser in addition to Explorer 11. Keep your Explorer as your default, but enter the Nordstom site via google browser and see what happens. Additionally, if your computer is brand new, Toshiba might help you with this and help you set up getting Toshiba's updates.

I have the same problem. I have a brand new Dell with Windows 7 and IE 11. I cannot see any videos, even You Tube. But, using Google Chrome, no problem. I update all my stuff and have no idea why it happens. Even my computer guy who installed my computer can't figure it out.

Thank goodness for Google Chrome. Also, as a side note, when I go to do my virus scan with Norton, if I use Google Chrome more often, I have less issues with any detections during the scan. I never have more than 10 when I use Chrome sd my main browser. However, when I use IE 11, I get more detections that Norton has to fix.

If Norton is finding viruses, you need to change your surfing habits. If it's finding tracking cookies, that isn't a real problem.

I just got Firefox to show video on this site! No luck with IE, but that is okay, at least it works through firefox.

IE is such a pain, don't use it. Sometimes it's the security settings built into IE that causes problems. You can import all of your favorites, bookmarks in Firefox, into another browser and use it instead. I personally don't like Chrome but a lot of people use it. It really is necessary to have more than one internet browser installed. You never no when one might have problems at a website.

ITA,

too much security on IE as a user I should be able to choose what I want to do on my own computer. {#emotions_dlg.mad}

This worked!! What i don't understand is I have activeX filtering checked in my preferences. It was one of the check lists I went though> Thank you so much, and everyone for your help.

What I don't understand is why QVC would have this on their site. Or is it IE? I mean what video on QVC could be corrupting, that HSN or another shopping site doesn't have. Just so weird, but I am glad I solved the problem
