@Gokat wrote:Hello again, mefwend, @Jordan2 !
You poor thing. This MS update mess (from June updates) is really wreaking havoc on you. Believe me, you're not alone in this. Updates are taking hours and hours.
Before I do anything, please check to see if you received an Optional Update during the night. It would be KB3161608. If you did, try to let just the one update install and give it lots of time, if needed. This is the fix...just out.
If not, I'll need to give you some directions. I need your Windows 7 info....Do you have the 32 or 64 bit version? If you don't know, just type into your Start Menu Search..."System Information" and look for System Type.
I'll check back tomorrow.
@Gokat I'm not at home right now but I will see if I got the update later. I know I am not alone in my troubles! I read an article from InfoWorld dated April 13, 2016 saying it's time for Microsoft to fix the Windows 7 update slowdown.I have read about Windows Update Client in Windows 7 Service Pack (SP 1), that I don't understand. Also mentioned Roll Up Win 7 SP 1. Some think it's a conspiracy by Microsoft what's happening to force you to switch to Windows 10.

Sounds good. I tend to think that MS is probably alloting a big share of their Update resources to Win 10 now and thus the neglligence toward Windows 7 and 8. The rollouts make sense here as it's one shot to the user and not nearly as time consuming (when it works correctly!
.).
If you have the KBxxx1608 Optional (rollout) Update,
1. Shut down and restart your computer.
2. THEN install the Optional Update above only.
3. Shut down and restart your computer, check for updates. Then you can install the other updates when you're ready.
If it hasn't arrived yet, don't panic. Just set your computer to check for updates and let it run until you get it. Don't shut down overnight. I know it's slow as molasses, but until the fix is installed that's what we have.
That should do it.:womanhappy
PS...Now you see why I don't run my updates for awhile after they appear.![]()

@Gokat I didn't get the update yet. By the way I have a 64 bit operating system.I do have udates that need to be installed, when I try to install them the green bar keeps going and they do not install. Then under the view history it says they have failed. I really believe Microsoft is doing this on purpose so you'll get fed up and install Windows 10!

Did you read my last post?
You won't be able to install the other updates until you follow the directions in my last post. The subject Optional Update is the fix and will take care of the speed, etc., once it's installed.
You say you've been reading about this so you know this is happening to many people. It probably happened here, but I leave my pc running so that updates can be downloaded through the night, as well as other housekeeping functions.
You'll need to be patient. Keep your computer running and let the Updates come through for as long as it takes. They're running in the background so the worst that will happen is that your computer will slow down a little. Don't shut down your computer. Just let it run. Once you get the update, just follow my directions above. The first one will be slow. After that...the rest will be speedier! ![]()
PS...Hot off the press, but you read it here first!![]()

Gokat--As I mentioned on here previously, to fix this month's patch Tuesday update problem, I installed KB3161664. That fixed this month's problems for me. I've had to do this each month since April (a different update each time). What I was wondering is whether KB3161608 (which I see listed in my optional updates) is a permanent fix or just another update, like KB3161664, that will fix the problem for this month only. If so, guess I wouldn't need to bother since I've already taken care of June's updates. Thanks for any help with this.

This one I know about, @qualityshopper. I spent all last night grinding on the net for Jordan2!
I don't get hyper over updating immediately when they come through as this is nothing new in "update" world. Now with Win 10 taking up Update resources I can't say I'm surprised.
I don't want to speak with fork-ed tongue, so I'll just say that "according to MS" KBxxx1608 is the permanent fix for the slow update problem. Take that for what it's worth. The fix is part of the 1608 rollout for the month of June and includes other updates as well. MS has been sending out these rollouts monthly putting all the regular (not security) updates into one "rollout" and sending out once a month. About time IMO
!
From what I read, the KBxxx1664 wasn't working for many so you lucked out. HTH's![]()

Thanks, Gokat, for answering so quickly. I sure hope this is a permanent solution. Getting tired of looking each month for that month's solution. In April it was KB3145739, May was KB3153199, and June was KB3161664. As you said, guess I've been lucky in that each time, the manually installed update fixed the problem.
Have to admit, I'm a little hesitant to install KB3161608 (I never install any of the optional updates), but if it will finally fix this annoying problem, guess I will. Just wondering, however, if I should uninstall the three updates mentioned above or just leave them alone. Thanks.

I say just leave them alone, @qualityshopper . I read it somewhere in my wanderings!
The geeks are finally catching up to me. It's a lot easier when you wait rather than having to dig so hard before answers coagulate. Take a look at the latest!![]()
We'll all have to wait to see what July brings, I'm afraid...It's a big one here; my berfday, Skinn's Anniversary month, MS puts the price tag on 10...so hopefully I can add "fast updates" to that list!![]()

Thanks again, Gokat. Keeping you busy tonight. I've been reading on infoworld.com also about this, as well as askwoody and anywhere else I could find. Will be so glad to see an end to this update problem. Hope this KB one does it. Think, though, I might wait until next month's patch Tuesday to install it. Right now, things are working as they should, but if updates hang again in July, will definitely install this fix.
