Re: Oh, no, I think I deleted....

Census invitations never come by email. They are almost always sent to you as a paper document or,  in some rare cases, by a census taker person.

If you don't respond then you will be sent four consecutive documents, on separate dates, regarding the invitation. If you do not respond to any of those then a census taker will come to your house. It is against the law to not respond.

It may have been a scam.  If it was real, I wouldn't worry about it.  The Census Bureau will catch up to you eventually.  They are nothing if not tenacious.

This is being selfish of you. Census's are to figure out how much your State is given ,and how many people live in your State. It's not a personal thing.

@SurferWife Attitude.........the town where I was born - is receiving MILLIONS $$$$ to up-grade buildings and roads this year.  It's a college town so the students will also benefit.

Ours came in the mail late last week, but completing it online was the only option. It was very quick and easy. We got a reminder in the mail yesterday, which I threw away.

I did mine online , but that is not the only option. If you don't complete it online, you will be sent a paper version that you can send back.

@SurferWife   As long as you know you are committing a FEDERAL crime. Shame on you.

I would be dubious about things sent in email.  Our Sherriffs office even warned us about that. I received mine through the mail.  I completed it and set it back right away as I don't like anyone knocking on my door unless I asked them to be there.

@SurferWife I actually feel the same way.  With the last census, I repeatedly ignored the paperwork.  Then one day when I was coming home from work, a census worker was standing in my driveway with her Ipad.  She knew I had not filled it out and was there to get my info.  I told her I had the form and would fill it out and send it in.  I was not about to tell her anything, as it was kind of creepy that she was at my house.  I did send it in, but only filled out very basic info and left a lot of it blank.  That seemed to satisfy them.  I think there are only a few questions that they want answered for sure.  I don't answer anything I am uncomfortable answering or I think is none of their business.

A shame, we all must do our part. You may help your community open a new library, a school, get funds to repair roads and bridges.

They only want to know how many people live at your home.

LOL, being online Google, Yahoo and Microsoft know everything about you. Amazon is big brother.

It is too late to complain about staying unknown.

@Nuttmeg- Exactly.  I'd say those big companies know more about us than the government and they're not providing federal funding to our communites for necessary infrastructure.

I never understand why someone refuses to fill out the census.  Nevermind that it's a violation of federal law and you can be fined or given a jail sentence (for providing misleading information).  It takes a few minutes; is it worth that or having someone show up on your doorstep?  SMH.
