Re: My Laptop Has Bit The Dust

My Toshiba lap top died 2 years ago, I bought MacBook. The funny thing is, I use my iPads and iPhone 99% of the time. However I did need storage for photos and genealogy so....

@Jordan2

I feel your pain.  My 27" iMac bit the dust (BSOD) last week. mad.gif Tried everything under the sun trying to troubleshoot.  Repairs are $$$$.  So off to the Apple Store to get another iMac before their "back to school" sale ends 9/25.

Now I'm stuck using a 9 yr old 15" MBP w/an old OS. mad.gif

@Jordan2, I remember the discussion as well.  Get thee to the Apple store and buy a MacBook (Air or Pro).  LOVE mine.  Windows 10 did me in.  Highly recommend!  LM

Re: My Laptop Has Bit The Dust

So for what I used my laptop for (email, Facebook, and just surfing the web) I'm leaning towards a Chromebook. I was wondering if most people use this as an addition to their laptop, or can one get by with this as their primary device? I have my eye on the Samsung Chromebook Pro, 4GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage and the Asus Chromebook Flip C302, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage. The Samsung sells for $549.99 and the Asus sells for $469.00. Both are capable of expanded storage. I watched a review comparing both and the guy said you can't go wrong with either one, he liked the Samsung better. I am also leaning towards the Samsung, but I would very much appreciate any advice anyone can offer! Oh yeah I forgot to ask what is a Beta Channel and Stabile Channel as it pertains to apps you buy from the Playstore?

So I'm in mourning now that my 7 year old Toshiba laptop has finally died a long time coming death. I had a love hate relationship (mostly hate) with this laptop. But as much as I couldn't stand it, it is like an old friend I will miss. So now I'm stuck using my Kindles and iPad Air to keep me connected with my emails, social media, and my shopping. I'm not a techie and not sure whether I should purchase a laptop, Chromebook, MacBook Pro, or iPad Pro. I don't want to feel pressured, like I must immediately replace my laptop, but yet I'm really not a happy camper. I just needed to vent!

I thought a chromebook, should be cheaper than a lap top,i was looking into that for my brother, if one would spend that much for a chromebook, why not buy a lap top?

I have no idea what to recommend but now that it's August every store will be having BTS sales on this stuff so pick a budget and see whats available.

Re: My Laptop Has Bit The Dust

Over the years, when my computers died ... I just went to Staples or Best Buy and bought another one ... inexpensive ... no bells and whistles.

Technology changes so quickly, I don't  to want to spend money on anything that's "made to last."

I have laptop, tablet and iPhone and two Kindles ... that just about covers all my technology needs.

Jordan, 4 GB of Ram is not very much.  Does anyone know if Chromebooks require less ram than laptops?

I know I wouldn't buy a laptop with 4 GB ram.  A chromebook might be fine with that ram.

Maybe someone can chime in.

A Chromebook is the same as an Android tablet.  This amount of RAM is fine.

Re: My Laptop Has Bit The Dust

I saw my nephew today and he was telling me his MacBook Air has been giving him problems and if I were to go with a MacBook get the Pro. He also said he has seen some Chromebooks that looked nice, he wasn't much help! I did see there is an adapter called Hyper Drive USB Type C Hub that sells for $99 and gives you all the ports your used to. Does this mean I wouldn't have to buy all the accessories that you need for the MacBook Pro 2016?
