So what? Does that mean every person with a cell phone has their face in their phone? No! How you act when you own a smart phone is your behavior and not the phone's fault. You can own one and not look at it all day if you choose. There is no rule dictating how much or how little a person uses a phone. BTW, not using one doesn't make you a better person.

My original purpose for even owning a cellphone was to keep "cell time of the night". With my hockey league, ice time was close to $4 per minute, and they went strictly by cellphone time. I ran our games accordingly as to not acrue more payments due for running over our alloted amount of game time.
I too use it only when I am out and about, if, an emergency should arise. My wife and Tracfone are the only ones that know to whom that number is assigned. Don't even turn it on till game time, then off it went. Not sure I would even know the procedure needed to answer a phone call, I didn't with my last one, and my wife will never let me forget that fiasco! =^..^=

The same thing happened to my husband! He never uses the cell phone, but he was out one day and was expecting a call here at the house. When that call came, I called him on the cell. He didn't realize it was HIS phone that was ringing. A stranger finally had to tell him that, "Uh, sir, I think your phone is ringing."

I keep my cell phone ON all the time, day and night. I want to be able to dial 911 quickly if necessary. Just about anywhere I land for any length of time, I have the ability to charge it so I don't worry about the battery.
I don't have a landline, it would be silly to turn my only phone OFF. What about a fire or an intruder? I can't wait until it powers up.
I can't recall ever being disturbed by my phone after I go to bed.
If I ever do, it's a small price to pay for the convenience of a working phone at my fingertips.
But to call 911 is not the only reason I have a cell phone but it's the primary reason why it stays on all night.

Your story about your husband makes me feel a little better. I did know my phone was ringing as I was waiting for my wife to call. I had dropped her and my late mother-in-law off at a restaurant to eat lunch.
Now I had no idea how to get to this restaurant so my wife gave me directions as I drove. Dropped them off and went back to "my end of town" to do some things while they were eating. Then my phone rings and figured you just hit the phone icon and it answers.
Nah, that would be too easy, they have to justify the cost of all these widgets by making them un-simple. I was pushing different icons/buttons and it kept ringing. Now I knew how to make a call, but didn't realize you cannot answer with the same procedure as any old phone.
So I called my wife's cell phone and kept getting her voice mail. She was trying to call me, so you get the picture. When my phone rang again, same dilemma. I call, voice mail! So I start driving to this place I am not sure how to find and finally thought I had found it.
Alas, I called my wife's cell and she answered. I was in the right parking lot of a rather large strip mall, but not right by the restaurant door. I saw her and her mother come out, and, whew, a sigh of relief! She mentions that every now and again.
Gotta swipe a screen a specific way to answer a phone? Wonder what brain child thought up that nonsense, and me, a tech guy! Thanks for sharing your husband's story. He is probably used to hearing others cell phones ringing and didn't give it a thought. I don't when I am around people who most seem to have them in their hand or pressed on their ear.

@fthunt wrote:Now that's a classic - never get incoming calls but (I) keep it turned OFF to save battery. Hmm (too funny)
@fthunt May I ask what you find so darn amusing? I keep a cell for emergencies only and for my convenience. I don't want to receive calls on it. As soon as you start handing out the number, you are obligated to leave it on and answer it or check for messages. I don't want to do that. I have a land-line for receiving calls.
I'll leave it to you to be a slave to your cell phone.
Why does anyone think if you have a cell phone on, you're a slave to it? Where does that thinking come from? At least half the people I know don't have a landline anymore. So, if you turn off your phone, you aren't able to make or recieve any calls. For those who have a landline, would any of you take the reciever of your land line "off the hook" 24/7? Would you unplug your landline phones? I'm sure the answer is no so why should a cell phone user turn off their phone? You can silence the phone so it doesn't wake you at night and still have it operational in case of an emergency. Just like how the rotary phone was replace by touch tone phones, landline phones will eventually be replaced by cell phones.
There are a lot of people who wear their "lack of being tech savvy" or "being old fashion" like a badge of honor. It doesn' make you better or less than someone who embraces every new tech item that comes along. It's not an all or nothing situation. You can have a cell phone, leave it on 24/7 and still have a life.
Actually, yes. We have done that many times.

I'm not sure why you're specifying TracFone. You'd use it same as you'd use a smartphone from any other service provider.
My TracFones are on all the time. I've adjusted settings on my phones and apps to minimize battery drain.
But I've often heard its recommended powering smartphones off and back on once a week. I know I should, but I don't.
