I'm torn between this and the new Kindle Voyage being released next month (but already on backorder until late December). I use my old Kindle for reading and I also have an I-pad. Has anyone used the Fire for reading books since that will be my primary use of it? Thank you

If you have an ipad for a tablet, I'd get the Kindle Voyage. It would be better for reading. It would have the correct lighting for reading and also the screen won't have glare.

My husband gave me a Kindle Fire HDX for Christmas and I was extremely disappointed with it. No matter how many things Amazon says you can do with it, I found it to have plenty of limitations. He ended up selling it on eBay.

Wow, just what exactly did you want to do that you couldn't?

Mine does absolutely everything I'd ever want and I love it!

That was my question to. Mine actually does more than I ever thought it would.

I love my Kindle 8.9 HDX. It does more than I thought as well. I can dictate emails, listen to books. Have been reading a lot of British authors lately and I use the British voice for those books. I use my Kindle dedicated ereader more for reading books since reading on the HDX is like reading on a computer screen and a bit harder on my eyes. It just depends on what you want to do with it. Read all the specs for both, then decide what you need to do and choose the product that would satisfy what you require.

I have a Kindle and love it. Mostly use for reading and web surfing. My significant other has an Ipad, it is really nice but I did not feel I needed an Ipad because I mainly wanted a device to read.

WOW! Surprised to hear that. I have had the first generation Kindle Fire since it first came out a couple of years ago. It doesn't have the bells and whistles that the HDX has, but it has plenty. I am always surfing the web, playing games, doing Facebook, reading, watching videos on Netflix etc. I rarely use my laptop since getting it.

Love my Kindle but I wanted a bigger screen. Wish they had the 8.9 and I would be all in.

Me too. I wish she would come back and explain. Sometimes when people slam a great product, it is because they don't know how to run it. Or they don't know how to change the settings to make it do what they need it to do.

I have the hd7 fire not the hdx and I was happy until I bought a mini ipad and I would never buy the hd7 fire again. I think the ipad has better apps and just has a better setup. You can get a kindle app for ipad. I do use a kindle paperwhite for reading and would recommend it. I don't need a tablet but if I did I think I would also look at the samsung galaxy.
