I just wanted to say that after checking in here on Tuesday, I was worried about Windows 10 automatically installing on my 6-year-old Win 7 laptop. Although I never leave it running when I'm not using it, I've been getting a lot of those Win 10 pop-ups lately, and read some of the horror stories here. I don't want to mess with my perfectly fine "old" laptop, and will deal with Win 10 whenever I buy a new computer.
When I got home, I fired it up, and everything was still normal (whew). I had previously set my machine to only allow updates after I approve them, but I had noticed more recently that it was automatically running them. I was lazy about re-checking my settings, but I did so that night and found that it had somehow reverted back to allowing them! Of course I changed it back to the way I had it before..........I'll be checking to see if it stays that way.

Gokat - Man, that one update for Win10 sure is persistent! I keep hiding it and this morning again I see it sitting there AGAIN! This is the first time I've ever had an update that I had hidden keep coming back. It was the only update that came up from this morning's update check.

Yes, it is persistent, @chickenbutt. Let GWX do its job. That's what it's for!![]()

I'm working on getting more brave.
But since it was the ONLY update for today I just hid it again.
I have two more laptops that I have to get updated with my new network so maybe I'll get brave with those. I have the software on both of them. I know there will be updates because I haven't used either of them for the last couple of weeks. skeerd! hehe Big Windows monster skeery! hehe

I hope you read my opening statement on this thread, @2blonde. I empathize fully with what you're going through with MS and Win 10. The reason I started this thread was to share the GWX Control Panel program...a godsend here for blocking all the Win10 Update/Install files automatically so that we no longer have to deal with them. Many have installed the program now and are reaping the benefits.
MS will continue to aggressively pursue the install of Win 10 ,with or without permission, via the Update process. Your experience with settings changing is happening, especially for those who shut their computers down nightly. It's an attempt to force the install. The GWX Control Panel program handles that as well.
Please give some thought to using the program. It's been tested, is free, and will give you some peace of mind with regard to fending off the Win 10 install until YOU choose it.

I hear ya, girl!!
Consider the GWX Control Panel a backup, @chickenbutt. You can still check, hide, etc., knowing that if you forget on one of the computers, GWX will have your back. It's a win win for the good guys!![]()

No apologies necessary! I truly appreciate you taking the time to help myself and other posters with your valuable info and input!
If anything, it was my fault for not reading all the details on this on the website. I used.
You rock!

My cup runneth over here, @IG.![]()
Thanks a bunch. As if MS isn't giving enough grief. Now the Q's Forum has decided to make things more interesting as well. Doubled posts, no Notification menu, yada yada yada. Who has more fun?!?

Today I ran updates and the setting was "let me choose which updates to install."
The first set of updates finished, with no apparent changes involving WIN 10.
Now I am downloading and installing optional updates, all are labeled WIN 7

it rudely cut me off!
Would like to add that the message having to do with my scheduled date to install WIN 10 is not visible... and that is a good thing!
Just now, upon restarting my computer, GWX Control detected components if WIN 10. I am just following the directions shown in the control box and this has eliminated problems.
