Are there only certain phones that work with VR goggles? TIA

Yes. Whichever VR goggles you are interested in, you will need to go their website and/or contact the manufacturer CR & ask for their "system requirements."

You can not use VR Goggles with a Tracfone. You should check smartphones from Samsung , Apple, LG, and Google Pixel. These will be higher end phones with RAM, faster processors, and a bit of storage.
A new trend is VR laptop and desktop gaming computers.

@Nuttmeg, Please clarify (Thank you)
Are you saying Trackfone doesn't allow use of VR?
With Trackfone's BYOP program a person could be using the high end type phone you describe.

You can bring a Samsung S7 or S7 Edge to the Tracfone network. These two products can run VR. Why would you want to consider this option?
There are better choices. You should talk to Tracfone about using their data plan(s) to play games. What would be the cost, can this be considered? What type of an S7 or Edge phone would you buy an unlocked or branded product?
I would think a gamer would want to play a game anytime, and anywhere. You would need an unlimited data plan. Tracfone does not offer this.

Yes you could, but a portable device is made to be used on a mobile network. Please go to Amazon and see the VR headset, the controller, and the carrying case sold as a package.
