I don't think so.

I don't think a Mac is easier either. I have had a Mac for five years and I still don't understand the file structure. On a PC I can find anything. Not so on a Mac.

Same here. It's not that I don't understand the file system, I want more control. I like making folders and naming them. I've tried doing that with iPhoto and what a mess I had. I think I had 2 or 3 copies of some of my pictures because they copied instead of moving to a new folder. I share pictures on Facebook, via e-mail or making DVDs. When I want to find a picture, I don't like searching through "events" to find it.

Most people I know don't use their home computers for much more than being online, writing e-mail and playing some games. They've never opened Windows Explorer, know where it is or what it does. Switching to a Mac should be easy for them.

The difficulty might be in not fully understanding iPhoto. If you create an album using photos from events, the picture will be in events and the new album you created. If you delete the picture from the album folder, the picture will still be in events. If you delete the picture from events folder, it removes from both events and the album.

I understand it just fine now. At first, I didn't understand why I couldn't move the photos and eliminate them from the events list. The problem for me, I don't want it that way. When I created an album, I want the photos to be there and not in events. I take thousands of photos in a year's time. It would be nice to have them organized the way I want.

So simply make the album folders the way you want, and organized how you want. Don't click on events to look at your photos,,just click on the folders you made. Personally, I happen to think its a great feature to have the original always avilable in events. It's almost like a built in backup of my photos. The only time I click on events is when I first import the photos. I then go to that event and, depending on what's been imported, either add them to existing album folders or create a new one. If I want to access those pictures again I go to wherever I put them. I don't understand why your photos weren't located where you put them?

See, that would be a good thing to work on in the one on one session. But...many of the Apple stores offer free classes for iPhoto. Some classes are just Mac, others are just iPhone/iPad. iPhoto works a little different on each device, so that why they offer separate classes. If I may suggest - attend one of the free sessions first. Then use your one on one session to take a deeper dive (maybe go over some of the things from the class again, or ask about things that the class didn't cover). You can go to apple.com, click on your local store, and see a list of classes/times offered. You sign up for the classes online also.

That's a great idea Lynn. I just checked and they don't have any free iPhoto classes right now. I may wait a little while and see if they have some soon before I sign up for a private session. This is something I want to learn more about.

Re: Apple's One To One Sessions

Nick nack, not sure if you have another store near you. We have several malls around my area that each habe Apple stores. I have looked at the list of classes at the various stores near me and have seem that they offer different free classes. Many of the same, but sometimes 1-2 different. So if you have other stores near you look to see if they have an iPhoto session. If not, like you said, wait a month or so to see if one is added, and if not then use add this to your one on one list. Or, you can still ask about it in an upcoming one on one and go over things then, and when a free class is offered do that too. For me, sometimes I need to see and hear the same things a few times before it sticks, lol. Bottom line, when it comes to learning technology the learning never ends.
