We are attempting to install LG sound bar to our LG TV. All the lights and readout seem to be correct, but we aren't getting any sound out of the speakers. Obviously we are missing a key step.

Thanks, we'll check these steps out first thing in the morning when we have daylight. Not enough lamps at that end of the room.

The audio menu on the TV shows nothing about external speakers. Is there a chance the TV is too old to be Blue Tooth enabled? Its about 6 years old, but I bought the sound bar from the same independent appliance dealer from which I bought the TV. I will probably end up calling him, but I hate admitting we are too stupid to get this thing going.

Can you direct connect the sound bar instead of using Bluetooth?

I doubt you have Bluetooth on a TV especially one that is 6 years old. What type of cables are you using to connect the sound bar to the TV. I started another thread about connecting my older analog audio system to a digital audio only TV. You find a similar problem with your setup. An older analog TV and a digital only sound bar.

Bluetooth? I didn't even know the new TVs had that. Look in your TV manual or you can find the manual online at LG. What model TV? We can look it up for you. First thing I do when I buy something new (and even before I buy it) is to download the pdf manual from the company. Much easier to read than the little booklets.

I doubt any TV has Bluetooth. I looked up LG sound bars and the type of connection they have. It's similar to my problem but in reverse. It only has optical audio or digital connection and Bluetooth. I doubt the older TV has one to connect to the sound bar. Good news, you can get a digital to analog converter, red/white analog cables and an optical cable from Amazon for less that $40.
It is easy to connect and use the converter. You plug the optical cable into one side of the converter, the red and white cable into the opposite side, plug the converter into the TV via the optical cable or the red/white cable (depending on the type of connections you have) then the power supply. You need to have your TV's audio set for external speakers or audio system for the sound to be heard. You get into the menu of your TV using the remote.
I think the name "optical audio cable" is confusing because you think optical, sight, how can that be for sound? Optical means the type of fibers that carry the sound.

How did you connect it--does it need an optical cable and is the cable intact? The fiber inside the optical cable is very liable to damage (from sharp bending) and it's possible if you did connect it, it's not working.
Just a thought....it may not be your problem.
