Anxious/Nervous about dumping cable - Page 4

@JudyL I understand you being nervous...I am not nervous about switching but learning a new service will have a learning curve.

We are also thinking about cutting the cord $210.00 per month with no premium channels our modem/router is included in the bill, but the bill goes up every year. They will not negotiate.

My husband is the one holding back, there are certain channels he WANTS and finding the with one streaming channel proves difficult.

Also reliable internet is an issue, Specturm internet is good and fast and will be $99.00 month if we drop their cable service.

Probably next year we will still be looking....some things my husband takes for ever to make a decision on, sigh.

Theres really nothing to worry about as you will get most of the channels you have on cable on live stream tv. If a channel you like is not on it, you may be able to find an app to load. The only problem is its not as easy to quickly surf between channels. If you don't like it, go back to cable as a new customer with the the new customer deals.

It's really easy to surf with Directv Stream. Their streaming box w/remote makes it easy to jump from channel to channel. The remote is the only one I've seen with actual numbers on it where you can press the channel number and go directly to it. The little red one is the record button and it's instant plus it gives you options to record the entire series or just one episode. This remote has everything I need to keep the 'cable experience' going w/o the high price. It pairs with almost every make and model smart TV so you can set aside your regular remote control and just use this one.

I have ATT uverse, so a real dinosaur. But since I am a retiree I get a discount on internet, tv and mobile, so every time I get the bug to maybe cut the cord, I just don't. Maybe someday but i guess I'm just not ready yet.

Change is always a little anxiety-producing. I just did it too, and you do need to get used to it all, but you willl!
CableTV had become terrible and now I do see many of my favorite shows AND save a lot every month!
Do you have someone there who is tech savvy? That helps. Just plunge ahead. The TV shows are much better!

@JudyL I didn't read through all the other posts, but if it's not been mentioned yet, you can go ahead and get YTTV right now before getting rid of your cable. Just find it on your Firestick and subscribe. They ALWAYS have a premotion for new members where you can get a week free or some such offer. You do have to enter your CC, but if you don't like it, you can cancel (VERY easy to do) before your trial time is up, and there will be no charge. And then your cable will still be there for you to use.

Several years ago, before we had the highspeed internet we do now, we tried YTTV. Talk about buffering; it was awful! We had DISH at the time, and we didn't cancel it or anything. We just subscribed to YTTV and used it in place of DISH. When we saw YTTV wouldn't work for us (on our end because of the speed of our internet--there was nothing wrong with YTTV), I easily cancelled it, and we used DISH until we were able to get faster internet.

Once that happened, and we had a huge issue with DISH to boot, we cancelled DISH and went straight to YTTV never looking back.

Oh yes, I was one of the original dinosaurs in changing from cable!

I would suggest if you have anyone, a relative, friend who can help you with a roku, firestick or any of those it helps so much. I don't think I would have done it without my son-in- law there to set it up.

But once he did, I could not have imagined all the wonderful movies, series, everything under the sun you can watch! And so many are free streaming with no sign ins even. I actually mostly watch free streaming channels with all you have never seen and many favorite movies and series, live shows.

More than you ever had on cable.

You could do it yourself if no one else there to help.

I got a free roku when intially signing up with Sling TV that has many things that cable has.

Later I cancelled Sling because it kept increasing in price.

My family has Youtube which you pay for monthly but also has live main channels which is nice.

Anyway, best of luck. You will wonder why you waited so long to discover this whole new world!

Seeing the remote really surprised me, so glad to hear Directv stream has the capability of recording. Do you like it and feel it is reliable?

Having the ability to have series set to tape and watch when convenient and zip past commercials has been great with Xfinity. The price isn't great though. Bundling with internet now, and need to check Xfinity internet rates alone without cable is my next step.

Went grocery shopping today as did half the population of Littleton lol but all set.

Could stay here at home happily for a week. At least.

@Kachina624, I have a Roku ready TV so for a spare room I got a Firestick to see how the live streaming compared. I find that I like the live streaming offered on Roku better. So I downloaded and added the Roku app to my Firestick. I love all the options available without needing cable.
