Re: Anxious/Nervous about dumping cable

We have no plans to switch.  We don't do much streaming, not much we are interested in seeing, so cable is fine for us.

Re: Anxious/Nervous about dumping cable

I have AT&T and I don't think I'll dump it anytime soon.  I don't want to have to hunt for the things I want to watch.  They need to stay where they are now.

Re: Anxious/Nervous about dumping cable

@JudyL We will continue to do both cable and two apps in our mountain village. It is extremely remote with no antenna TV available. When the large crowds of tourists come into town, they drag down the internet speed. In fact, a large crowd sometimes crashes the entire system. Our cable TV saves the day.

Meanwhile back in West Texas, we have access to 50+ antenna stations. After careful consideration, we are cancelling our cable next week. I love my old TiVo DVR and the programs I have saved. I will miss it. My husband is using the apps to watch Peacock and Paramount+ on his iPad. We will most likely subscribe to something that streams the cable channels, but I will first see how we like using the free channels and the two apps.

Cable and satellite TV services are old school using old technologies. Their prices will only go up b/c people are leaving that behind and that leaves the remaining subscribers to pay for the losses. Time to move on to more current technologies whether you like it or not.

@SilleeMee  - I appreciate your response but don't appreciate the "scolding" tone of "time to move on....whether you like it or not.".  My concerns are legitimate - whether or not you understand them - and are not to be discounted by you or anyone else.

I considered droppping my Spectrum service because it keeps going up too. However, I use my DVR every day and you can't "tape" with a streaming service, right? If so, I don't know how to do it. So, I try to negotiate a better price and stay with cable so far. Too bad you can't just pay a reasonable amount for the internet.

@geegerbee

Yes, you can record with Streaming. I have Hulu.

@JudyL

I wasn't directing my statement at you. I was just saying that technology is advancing and that things move on. My apologies if I offended you.

Re: Anxious/Nervous about dumping cable

I switched to Streaming over 6 years ago and I have never looked back. I too had a lot of anxiety and what if questions before I took the plunge. I have Hulu TV, Netflix, Prime, and a few free streaming platforms to watch movies and shows. I have more entertainment then I can possibly watch, including all of the network, and cable channels and news outlets.

Take a deep breath and do it.

Re: Anxious/Nervous about dumping cable

@ahoymate   During many of the years I was a snowbird, I tried using other companies for my phone and Wi-Fi which are not part of my HOA as TV is.  Sorry to say, I didn't find another company I'd once again run to.  Long before the pandemic, the others managed to be so bad I doubt I was even close to polite when I cancelled them.
