My phone now works - Time Warner had to re-boot it from their end. There's a list of modems/routers on Time Warner's website - but I'll ask which one they recommend.

If you have phone service through your cable company, the modem/router is different from those for internet alone. Be sure you buy one they recommend.

I went to Time Warner's office yesterday. They gave me a short list of modems/routers to take to Walmart.

Are you sure Walmart carries them?

You can take your short list and check Walmart.com.

I have an AT&T answering machine and handsets too. Sometimes the handsets are dead - they've lost their connection to the base (answering machine). You have to:

1) unplug the base,

2) remove the handsets from their chargers and unplug their batteries,

3) wait a few minutes,

4) plug in the base,

5) plug in the handset batteries and put the handsets in their chargers, and

6) give them a few minutes. The handsets should re-establish their connection to the base and you should get a dial tone on the handsets.
