Can you tell me why it is necessary to sign in all the time when accessing the forums?  If you are out for a couple of hours, you have to sign in again.  This is annoying.  Why can't we just sign in the first time of the day and let it be for the rest of the day.  Answers?

I would guess your idea is impossible because when you post on a Forum - they - the computer needs your name & password which allows you to enter their site..   There would be no way to track your postings - your complaints - your violations.  (if any)

Re: Signing In Constantly

[ Edited ]

This topic shows up frequently and our experiences vary widely.   This is because the issue involves the way the website interacts with the specific device type we use and also the software and data on our device.    In my case, on my Mac if I log in to the forums and keep the tab open, I remain signed in for most of the day.    Using my iPad 3 or iPhone 5, I'm still logged into the forums for hours, but not as long as with my Mac.

Any site will eventually terminate the session after a certain elapsed time, for security reasons or just due to general website "housekeeping" software.

When we sign into the shopping area of QVC, that's a separate system from the forums and logically will only keep us signed in for a shorter period of time for security reasons -- our personal and financial info is stored there.

To be sure we're not having problems caused by our device or our software or stored data, the browser often is the key, so these troubleshooting and preventative steps are important:

1 -- Delete all browser cookies/cache/website data.

2 -- Then, close the browser.

3 -- Then relaunch the browser.

(I do this at least once a day on all devices -- it causes no harm and can clear up or prevent a myriad of problems.)

4 -- Also, check to be sure you're using the most current version of the browser.

If the problem still happens, try a different browser.   (Always keep at least 2 browsers up-to-date with cookies/cache/website data cleared, ready to use for troubleshooting.)

If you use any browser addons/extensions, be sure those are all up-to-date.

(On my Mac I use the Chrome, Firefox, and Safari browsers, on the iPad and iPhone I use Safari -- all software is the most current version available.)

@fthunt

Think OP meant keep you signed in like eBay does.  Once you sign into eBay you can chose to stay signed it or log out.  OP is asking why QVC does not have that option...to allow you to stay signed in all day so you don;t have to sign in again if you are away from computer for awhile or inactive.

On mobile devices, the cookies/cache/history/website data can cause the problem the same as on computers, so it does need to be cleared on a regular basis.

But, in addition to that, on mobile devices there's a process called "background app refresh."  If this activity is turned on for the browser app used to access the forums, it can log us out and cause us to have to keep signing back in.

On Apple devices, this refresh process can be enabled/disabled in Settings--->General--->Background App Refresh.   (The default browser app on an Apple mobile device is Safari.)

For your specific mobile device, you can do an internet search and see how to locate settings and manage this process.

I agree, @janz.    From a security perspective, however, it's not the greatest idea to opt to stay signed in -- particularly on a site that stores payment information.   There's software out there prowling the internet looking for open sessions on websites, able to intercept our information or "drop in" and steal it.    It's far easier to login more often than it is to try and recover from identity theft.

Agreed, just trying to clarify what OP said as it seemed there was some confusion from a response to the post.  I always log out.  Better to take the time to log back in than be compromised...and that includes all sites, not just QVC.

Amen, @janz.    Wise words, sage advice.😊

I hate it!  If I want to give a "heart" to a post, I have to sign on.  Then if I scroll down 10 seconds later and want to give another heart, I have to sign in AGAIN!  It's so flippin' annoying.  I don't understand it AT ALL and wish they would change it.  Once every few hours would be fine, but every ten seconds?  No, thank you!

@santorini, the fact that this doesn't happen to all of us means there's a problem with the way your device is interacting with the site.  Have you tried all the troubleshooting ideas I suggested?
