Excellent suggestions here.  

Another tip is to not pay attention to critical, 'mean' people.  

If you feel even much worse after talking to someone who criticizes, try to not talk with him/her.  See if you feel better. 

Sad to say that some folks have an 'agenda', so to speak.  If not with you, with someone else.

Walk tall, walk strong.

And, if possible, take a nice walk around the corner/block!
